Girlfriend wants to buy a new laptop

So guys, my girlfriend wants to buy a new laptop as hers is just about dead.

She wants to spend up to £500 ( $812).

All it needs to be used for really is -

    -Day to day internet usage
-Day to day application use such as MS word
    - The ability to run WoW comfortably on medium preferrably.
    -Runs windows, not a Mac

Sounds easy enough, but we want best value for money, we want to avoid buying from PC world or any mainstream store which charges ridiculous prices for the hardware.

Any ideas? any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, MSI would be the best to look at

look for something with discrete graphics

    NO NO NO NO..

Do not take a HP or Lenovo if you can help it.

They have the highest fail rates of all laptops.

Websites don't matter as long as shipping isnt too much and it's legit.

They have the highest fail rate because they sell the most

    Nope lol. :P

If I am correct they user lower quality parts than for exampe Asus, which I adore btw. ASUS ftw!

I might be biased against them but numbers say they have high fail rates.

If you want my opinion: take anything but a HP or Lenovo.

My philosophy on laptops/notebooks is you get what you paid for. Higher end Lenovo's are really nice, and HP Elitebooks are really nice but pretty much everything else is junk. I love Asus myself too being I own one and it runs so cool and quiet compared to Dell's, Lenovos and MSI's I've tried.

Don't know, Lenovo is pretty new to me. But I wouldn't risk it.

might look at these 3 at bestbuy or cyberpowerpc. seems like the parts are pretty good. Should be able to play WoW at decent settings.

An HD 4000 play WoW decently? Sorry but it won't

They ran it at 1024x768 with Medium settings and got ~75 fps or so... but 1024x768 is small as heck

Been looking at laptops myself as I'd like to get one soon. This is a bit overbudget, but have a look. Ebuyer are generally good to buy from, I buy a lot of stuff there.

Ideally she'll want something with an actual graphics card and not something with intel HD integrated rubbish.

[edit] the 610m is entry level, but it is a discrete card as opposed to being integrated, and entry-level is all you're really going to get at the £500 ish pricepoint.

lenovo is known world wide for making tough and reliable notebooks

HP is just HP, they are large enough of a company to offer proper support, something Asus and MSI are terrible at

Lenovo is IBM's old laptop department btw, they splintered off on their own here a few years back and do make some really quality products

Lenovo is the chinese subcontractor that made IBM business laptops for years. They bought the rights and designs to all IBM laptops and have been making them under their own brand now. Still as popular as always for business users even with the new name.

Correct me if I wrong but isn't WoW mostly rendered by the CPU?

Something like this might be a good option.

Does she really need a Laptop? i'd say that she should think of getting a small tower rather than a laptop, there is rather light-weight towers out there, that can run world of warcraft quite good and that aint that expensive.
