What will be the next step in entertainment and information technology?

So, since the 18 hundreds, when man first invented motion picture, it has advanced from then on. From motion picture to the invention of the television, to the invention of the recorder VHS, coming into the start of the digital age with DVD and high def, shown on flat screen digital t.vs.
This also extends to that invention computers, p.cs, information technology, right up to how information is store in both cyber space and on flash drives on.

So we live in a digital age, but just like all that came before, the kinds of technology we use now will one day become obsolete, just like old record players and Vinyl has become downloaded information now found on peoples computers, phones and portal devices, these things to will become a thing of the past one day.

What will be the next major step in terms of how things like motion pictures, music, gaming and information is maintained?

My money, morbid as it may sound, will be when mankind begins trying to invent ways to download information directly into someones brain, or perhaps like microchips put in peoples ears that lets us download music directly into it. And pictures, that will begin with digital glasses and move onto contacts.

Im not sure how entertainment that requires surgery would ever catch on.

I would think Virtual Reality would come before mind uploading/downloading.

Rather than surgery related entertainment, how about better VR technology?

This is where it's headed. Next stop you will be a direct witness inside movies. You will be able to touch and feel and smell everything as it's happening just like if you were an innocent passerby (or more precisely a ghost). Want to keep following the movie? Get in the car with the good guy for the high speed chase!

The camera angle would be w/e angle you wanted, the scenes you wanted to watch are w/e you feel like participating in. This would give movies so much rewatchability. Finding easter eggs and "deleted" scenes would be fun too.

Of course this VR stuff probably works better with games, but I can see movies going that way too.

And just like that my life would lose all productivity.

Personally i would probably lose far more productivity if i had holodeck Skyrim. I mean sex is fun but after a while you get tired - and Skyrim has magic. Magic is never dull.

This. Same goes for unicorns. Everyone says that sex would take over their lives but no it really wouldn't, would you want to try shagging 12 hours a day for consecutive days? I challenge you.

People dinked around with virtual reality back in the 90s but it failed to catch on. It's too exhausting. Entertainment time is relaxation time. Even with better technology I don't see it catching on.

    Quantum Computing

The quantum age will open up so much in the way we interface with the world. If we can make reliable quantum computers, and also get entanglement figured out in a way that it could offer perfect interfacing.......yeah....that would be amazing.

Thats the kinda thing you can use to be realtime anywhere you are able to get a robot or machine and you could transfer almost unlimited volumes of data instantly. We wouldn't need to be on Mars, we could have humanoid robots exactly mimicking human drivers at home. If you wanna take it one step further and interface THAT to some of the cool new human interfacing we can do brain to computer communications. People wired to a bod on mars, literally driving it, you live in Chicago but you drive a miner bot on Mars all day long. You could go on vacation to walk the Great Wall by just renting time on a tourbot in Beijing. They don't even need to e standard and autonomous, you could just get sensory input from a pod that flies or drives around letting you 'experience' the place. Kinda like a movie, or like a ride in a car you cant really control.

You see how crazy this shit is?

That would require finding a way to observe the outcome of an event on the quantum level without interacting with it. Which goes against quantum mechanics itself.

A quantum computer still requires an interface with a binary computer in order to send and receive instructions. It would only be advantageous in artificial intelligence, but the technology is a long way off from portability.

So while I agree it is definitely a future step, it's definitely not the next step.

Injections that inject the movie directly into your memory! Save time by not even having to watch!
