I have thought of this problem and offer a temporary solution. You say that the different wings are on separate power sources or w/e, i'm not an expert but you should be able to walk outside and turn the power off. This is not my solution though. Once the power is turned off, (this is for your own safety), enter his room, and find the power points. You should be able to take the cover off and see wires connected to the back of the power point. Find a small screwdriver and undo the screws which hold the wires on, this will disconnect the wire and stop the point from working. Push the wires back into the wall, place the power point back on and it will look no different. It just won't work. If my siblings were pulling this shit while i was going through uni, that's what I'd do. It will at least buy you a few days peace. Come back to me if you need an excuse if they come blaming you, i'm very tired right now.

While these are most definitely first world problems, if your brother is truly being a dickbutt of the aforementioned proportions then that's not cool. My two cents

Yeah not to be an ass but that is a terrible idea. For one those boxes that hold your receptacles and throw switches are usually some form of metal or plastic. When you take the wires off and shove them in the box and then turn the power back on guess what? Bam you just shorted that circuit and potentially start a damn Arc and brun the fucking house down. You need to put splice caps on the wires before shoving them back in the box. Also even with the power off you need to test for voltage to be sure there's nothing at that point.

All in all it's a terrible plan and please don't make suggestions on something you know nothing about. This is coming from someone with 4 years as an electrician.

Ok, since you keep pushing this. I got into college after high school.. parents only promised to pay for it if I went into medicine. I hated it and couldn't handle the cadavers so I dropped out and decided to work and study whatever I wanted, not what my parents insisted.

So yea, I had a job, I worked. And I would have had to work a few years more if I hadn't got really lucky this summer with an opportunity that got me $150,000. I hated the job and I hated the place I lived so I quit the next day, made plans for college and moved back. It was a one time thing though, I'll never get an opportunity like that again. So I used $25.000 to renovate my room, buy new furniture and new clothes and everything. I also had to pay 1/4 of the new heating system. My brother was also supposed to pay hes share but he couldn't afford it so he still "owes" the money.

And no, I can't afford another decent place without getting some night job if I want to still have enough left for the college fees. Why should I go through all that because my brother is being selfish?

Get some sleep pills and put them in his drinks every night, burn his speakers (is not that hard, just try to make them overheat or something), if he makes a lot of noice all the nights with the girls he brings... just go inside his room in middle of the night and trow water on their face and walk out (i actually did that with a roommate), in case he don't do a lot of noice just ignore that.

Yea, besides, I wasn't looking for some immature pranks to pull on him for revenge but something that might get him to stop. For example like pulling the power if he makes noise. But since I cant do it directly, the only way would be to just plug enough things in to blow the fuse which might not be a good idea.

Maybe there's something simple and obvious I might have overlooked. I can't be the only one with a problem like that.

Because I care about them? I hate watching this happen and am actually working hard to get mom on a diet. Doesn't mean they weren't great parents though and still aren't. It's just after mom retired, she's got super lazy and blames her metabolism, not her diet for putting on weight.

Yeah that wouldn't be a good idea, and most likely your house is on a breaker system so when you exceed the Amp rating for your circuit in your room it will trip. Most bedroom circuits are 15A and 20A depending on the house and what the owners want. Also most bedrooms are on there own dedicated circuits so overloading yours will only trip your breaker. Also you don't want to plus in a ton of random things, but instead plug in appliances that use alot of amps and it's not something I'd do but it wont really be dangerous as that circuit breaker will trip when you pull in to much current.

As to your problem there's not much you can do other than moving out or getting used to it. Take for example I did 60 hour weeks for 6 weeks straight while managing fulltime college and I worked 6pm-6am 5 days a week. Well I had to sleep during the day and everyones up so what I did to drown out the noise is take a decent sized fan and have it blow air at a wall/ceiling and I got used to it that now it's hard for me to sleep without some sort of fan running.

Well, he's going to be the one who wakes up in his mid forties and realises he's living at home and caring for his elderly parents. That being said it's not a bad thing for you. Just be prepared for the ultimate annoyance when he gets the lions share of the inheritance (or the whole house) for being the son who was always around.

Yeah sorry champ, I should have gone into minute detail on what was a rough idea and mainly a joke but hey, my bad! If you throw electrical tape on the end and leave that alone then it will be fine. It will certainly not burn the house down

Exactly what I'm worried about. This is the main reason I don't want to move out! He has no conscience and he only cares about himself. He will just try to manipulate my parents into giving him most of the inheritance and wouldn't shy away from anything to make me look bad in their eyes.

So if I move out the most likely outcome would be slacking and using the parents till hes 40-50, then selling most of the inheritance so he could continue living that lifestyle -.-

Still not something to joke about, after learning the electrical code for 4 years and seeing what happens when people do something they have no experience with well it gets me going because it's serious shit. And yes electrical tape could work as well but still prone to error compared to a good ole splice cap. Plus you've got to remember someone on the internet might take that joke serious and try it. People need to respect electricity because the second you are handling something you've never worked with before, shit starts happening and its not pretty.
