    RAM question

Hey guys, so im rebuilding my computer, and a friend recommended I get this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131837

The question is, currently this motherboard comes with a free stick of 8gb ddr3 1600 ram. For an extra 49.99 I can buy a 2nd stick of this exact same ram. Will I be able to run them in dual channel, and would you recommend doing this over buying http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314 ? thanks

Yes you can run them in dual channel if you get the same exact model, technically you can run different brand/models of RAM in dual channel but there can be some issues with that.
    Intel i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | MSI Z77 Mpower | Noctua NH-D14 | Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB 1600MHz
    Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Windforce 3X @ 1372/7604MHz | Corsair Force GT 120GB | Silverstone Fortress FT02 | Corsair VX450

Yes you'd be able to run two of the same sticks (both 8GBs) in dual channel.

I'd recommend getting the same 8GB stick, over the 2x 4GB sticks, as it could be troublesome attempting to run 2x 4GB + 1x 8GB.

If you chose to run just the 2x 4GB then you'd be wasting a perfectly good 1x 8GB stick. - Or you could sell the stick I guess.
    Computer: Intel I7-3770k @ 4.5GHz | 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM | AMD 7970 GHz @ 1200/1600 | ASUS Z77-V PRO Mobo|

Any idea if that brand/model is good? Or should i just buy the 2x 4gig sticks I was planning on buying anyways and sell the 8gig stick? :P

It is your average 1600MHz Cas9 RAM, reputable brand but nothing special. It is perfectly fine for the average gaming build.
I would use it instead of trying to sell a single 8GB stick, with 16GB of RAM you can play around with a RAM drive or something.

If it were me (not that n0c is wrong)

I would just use the single 8gb stick and call it a day. Yes, Dual Channel is faster... But not fast enough for me to warrant spending another $40-$50 and trying to sell a single 8gb stick for like $20. I don't believe there is a noticeable difference between single and dual channel, however dual is preferred since it is often cheaper, and faster, than single. Really, there's no reason to go single when dual has all the perks, and none of the downsides.

Also, I'm cheap as crap. Soooo yeah.
