When will they bite the bullet and finally merge realms?

I am not sure about you, but I am a victim of a "dying realm", a once thriving community is now dying a quickening death.

Raid guilds are struggling on both sides, disbanding constantly, to the point where there's but a few left, and even less that are recruiting outside their 10 friends.

WoW is a community game, it exists on community.

Outside of people who have poor PCs, who enjoys sitting around in an empty city with nobody to interact with?

Imo dead realms are one of the things most killing the game, and no CRZ doesn't fix that, it doesn't re-create an artificial community because you'll never see those players again.

Blizzard's excuse of "PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO LOSE THEIR CHARACTER NAME!! NOW PAY £25 OR GTFO!" I find absolutely pathetic.

Empty realms are down to Blizzard's design of making too many realms and assuming the community wouldn't decline.

I think it's time to start merging them, or at least not forcing players to pay £25 or reroll to escape them.

I sure wish at least some of the low pop realms would merge.
I've been on my current server (Shattered hand eu) since 4.0 and never has it been such a ghost town as it is now. And it was quite booming (not full at all but at least i was able to see other people). Now I see around 10 others in Shrine. Something happened since 5.2. as it was not like this even in 5.1.

That wasn't the reason why there are so many realms.
Back in the days WoW gained millions of people, and a few servers couldn't handle that.
Servers kept comming but at same time it kept getting to full, so they had to give us more and more till it stopped.
And now it is slowly declining and now they have to many servers.
It's not bad that blizzard gave us this many, it's just bad that they aint solving it now due the lack of people playing on each realm.

Blizzard is too stubborn, just continue waiting for something thats most likely not gonna come...
Probably in a dungeon or a raid throwing Regrowth on a tank.

To further my point view the link above.

Some realms have as little as 12,000 level 90s and 3000 90s of one faction.

It is fair to assume a proportion of them (Judging by recent sub drops 15%+) have quit, and a portion are alts.

How can Blizz expect a community game to exist with such small numbers?

    Small numbers?!
World of Warcraft is still #1 sub based MMORPG since 2004.
WoW has more numbers then most of the F2P games combined ( Don't come up with chinese games )

8.300.000 i see plenty of numbers right there.
    WoW has enough numbers.

8.3million players are not on 1 realm.

I am clearly talking about the figures I was quoting which show such a tiny amount of players on certain realms.

That's why merging is a great deal in WoW.
WoW has biggest amount of players you could ever dream off.
But WoW has an amount of servers that are just to ridiculous at the same time.

If they go from 250 servers to 100 servers, then everything will be alot more active.

I'm not really sure if you're arguing the same point as me or not here.

Merge lower pop realms, that is what I am saying

They're probably going to merge some realms when they merge battlegroups... Knowing Blizzard it probably won't come before next expansion.

But merging is happening, right now, right in front of your very eyes!
It's happening one toon at a time to the tune of $25 each.
Did you think we had forgotten? Did you think we had forgiven?

Sadly not only is Blizz too stubborn, but server transfers are also VERY profitable for them.

Most likely they're probably saying to themselves "We shouldn't merger servers right now, as for every person that quits the game that increases the chances for 3-6 others to server transfer somewhere else out of frustration of locating a raiding guild!"
