Picking between 4 monitors (144hz/IPS)... your advice is appreciated!

Hello, I am looking to buy a new monitor mostly used for gaming but also will be my primary screen for internet browsing and word processing.

The 144hz asus was almost an insta-buy for me, but then I realized I play mostly RPG games (& some RTS/only single player FPS) so I began to reconsider and started looking at IPS panels as well. My computer can push above 60fps in most games so a high refresh rate is advantageous, but I also want the colours in my RPGs to be vibrant.

    Asus VG248QE 144hz refresh rate ($270)
    Dell Ultrasharp IPS (23" at $190, 24" at $270)
    Asus PB238Q IPS ($230)
    Asus MX239H IPS ($230)

thanks a lot for your input!

120/144Hz screens is made for proffesionels gamers playing counter-strike, BF3 & LoL.
Not sure what IPS screen is best, but I recommend you skip the faster refresh monitors for your gaming preference.

Agreed. IPS is almost always preferred, unless you're doing something that actually -doing- something that demands it.

Example: I can crank WoW to the absolute max settings, and go to an empty zone, zoom in, and stare at a wall. I'll probably get about 250fps. Should I get a 244hz monitor, since WoW does 250fps? No.

Because as soon as I see another player, or do anything, or go to a raid, that'll drop down to 45, at best. And that's assuming you have a very nice system. If you play primarily MMOs, or RTS games... High FPS either won't be achieved, or won't be noticeable.

Yes unless you play multiplayer fps(and you said you don) IPS is the way you go.
I got an Dell Ultrasharp 27"(Lowest size for the the 1440p res) and I love it.

Having a TN+ led panel standing next to it and you clearly see the colors are way better on the IPS, and that alone is already worth it.
And I play all kinds of games beside FPS and I haven't noticed any problems at all with 5 ms refresh rate of my Dell.

So pick the IPS panel with the best color saturation and refresh rate and go with that. Don't spend money on that 144 hz screen cause you clearly won't notice that high refresh rate in the games you play.

JUst a heads up, if you DO go 1440p, make sure you have the hardware to run it. 2560x1440 is literally twice as demanding on the video card than 1920x1080.

I would go for a Dell. And than its most likely either 1920x1080 (for the 23 inch) or 1920 x 1200 (for the 24 inch), whichever you prefer.

okay thanks, i think i will get the 1920x1200 resolution.. hopefully some games out there actually support it

My GTX 570 handled 1440p resolution when I had it.

Granted I had to turn most games down a bit, but I could atleast play on high on 98 percent of my games.
