Hi there guys!
For all Witcher fans out there!
I've been invited with few of my friends to Cracow. CD Projekt Red actually created a new sudio there to improve their ranks among game developers (and to hire fresh bloods to their ranks as well)
Long story short... The event was seperated into 3 different parts: Presentation, After Party (1), After Party (2).
We had a 20 min gameplay presentation.
[Area]
We've started at some costal village (the whole region was simillar to Howling Fjord in WoW) it all felt nordic-like. The enviroment itself was very well designed! Though everything was made of seprated pieces – the damn area looked so realistic that it made me puke rainbow! So... While venturing across the harbor they showed us few types of transportation. Regular walk/run, Horse (simply whistling and a horse shows up), the teleportation (when you discover a certain area – you're able to quick travel there – pretty much Skyrim-like).
Of course they introduced sailing as well. You may ask why sailing? They told us that Geralt will swim during Witcher 3 but only in mid temp. Waters. The sea ones are too cold thus allowing to introduce boats, rafts etc. The funny thing is that due to weather conditions we might have problems with sailing (waves size, rain and wind) We even saw a whale! :O
[Weather Condition]
Sice we've mentioned the weather... It changes gradually.
Just by looking at the sky you'll be able to see wether the storm is coming or not. They actually showed us some thunder storm... seeing all that grass dancing, trees bending, winds blowing, some random objects like leaves and sticks flying around the forest – was just breath taking.
[Combat]
As for the gameplay... We have few signs. (Aard, Igni, Yrden, Quen, Axii) the funny thing is that we saw few different ways to use Aard... Normal knocback or an AOE knockback (according to developers we'll see even more).
The combat itself is fast paced! No more problems with targeting, miss swings etc. Every single swing connects perfectly with every combo and sign.
Gameplay Story
We've encountered a village which was terrorized by Leszy (eng. Leshy) in a nearby forest. The Elders of the village accepted his presence as they believed he was the demigod of the forest. The young village members thought that it was rediculous to allow such circumstances since Leshy is killing anyone who ends up being too close to the forest
We as Geralt... are asked to deal with this problem! (For money ofc) Just like in the old books (we are again hunting down monsters) We have an ability called (witcher instincts – something these lines) In this mode we boost our senses. We hear things that a mere human would not be able to hear. We see claw marks on trees, glows that are unusual (a sort of monster tracking device)
When we finally realize that it's Leshy we're dealing with. We go back to village to inform the elders and youngsters. We also tell them that in order to banish Leshy once and for all (they have to get rid of a person) that Leshy is attached to. Youngsters believe that Leshy must be connected to one of the elders (since they are protecting him all the time). They plan to kill the elders in order to banish the monster from the forest. Sadly... it turns out that an innocent girl is the one that Leshy is attracted too.
Village members kill her, allowing Geralt to quickly get rid of Leshy once and for all... When he comes back to the village it turns out that youngsters killed the elders anyway (since they were problematic for years).
After the presentation they showe'd us the cinematic... Which was of EPIC proportions...
You'll see it here: http://thewitcher.com/killingmonsters/ since killing monsters is the line that appeared at the end of the cinematic...
After that we've been invited to an awesome after party at the aviation museum (which included drinks, witcher meele fight presentation and good 'ol chat with the developers...
In a nutshell: CD Projekt Red is one of the best game developers out there... They stay true to the book series, they are open minded, they welcomed our ideas.
