What was it that killed Grom?

After he slayed Mannoroth was it the fire that killed him?

If so why didn't it kill Thrall also?

Thrall didn't block it with his face

because grom was in front of mannoroth when he exploded.

Thrall was CC'd and didn't have time to put down a cleansing totem. Grom died from Mannoroths dot; Thrall made a noobie mistake he forgot to bring his PvP trinket.

    But it wasnt exactly destructful...

If it was an explosion he wouldnt have been stumbling, he would have been blow away like Mannoroth melee attack earlier. He doesnt seem charred like it was pure fire either.....

I think hes still alive but wanted to live his life out in peace.

Lethal case of "sacrefice relevant to plot" syndrome. My brother died from that too.

Then he would be incinerated if so.

Grom pretty much said that the blood in his veins are burning him to death, because of the explosion

Am I the only one that thought they ripped off Dragon Ball Z with this cinematic. This is literally the same way Piccolo died when he saved Gohan.

Why bring a PvP-trinket to a clear PvE-fight? Grom's mistake is much clearer. He stood in the fire. Period.

Warcraft 3 was out in like 1999-2002 I think. DBZ is from 1996-1998.

Good point, nowadays it doesn't matter but back in BC I always had my PvP trinket on my holy pally just in case so I could swap quickly if I got cc'd.

According to the WoWPedia page on Mannoroth it just says when he died that "demonic fires" erupted from him...which is strange since I don't recall many, if any demon lords we've killed erupting in lethal demonic flames.

I always thought it was a release of volatile energy (similar to Deathwing and the whole "need plates to stop self from 'sploding" thing) since Mannoroth zapped in a bit of the Well of Eternity at some point in his existence so once he cracked open and died it rushed out of him and since Grom was at the blast's origin it killed him.

As for why he died - I think they just felt like it added maximum emote to the moment since Grom did some bad shit and redeeming the orcs let him be tied off on a good note since he was a fairly important character in the long-running plot.

I don't mind his death - I wish they'd have the balls to kill more characters instead of constantly giving them lame, near-death experiences and then magically bringing them back (Anduin, Vol'jin, Kael'thas after TK, etc..)
Signature dunked by a lame MMO Champ robot.

maybe mannoroth decided to blow himself up on purpose since he knew he was gonna die lol

or maybe mannoroth had so much power inside him that dying released all that power. remember when archimonde died and his explosion burned the world tree? I think it's more or less the same deal.
