Damn... with my (fairly) recent re-entrance into PC gaming, based on what I've played (obviously) I would say:

    MMO: World of Warcraft
    Shooter: Warface / America's Army
Strategy: Civilization V (Brave New World)
    Simulator: War Thunder
action: Kingdoms of Amalur / Wolverine / Castlevania Lords of Shadow
stealth: ... some Hitman (I assume as I've not played it yet :P)
    Racing: Burnout Paradise City
Sports: NONE - hate sports games

Real-time Strategy: Warcraft II/Beyond the Dark Portal
Turn-based Strategy: Master of Orion II and Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
Action: Batman: Arkham Asylum (liked it more than City, mostly for the Resident Evil creepy mansion throwback vibe)

While I have been deeply in love with the Street Fighter and Soul Calibur series, Injustice has me drooling. I've seen a few youtube videos of gameplay and cutscenes, and it looks gorgeous. I'll probably end up picking it up in the Steam Christmas sale, I imagine it will be at least as discounted as it was during the November sale (and hopefully a little bit more).

OP, you have listed zero games that are older than a few years old. I know it's your opinion but it's really narrow. There's so many games better than all of those BY FAR. The only game I can't debate on in your genres listed is WoW.

It's nice someone still remembers the Dune franchise. I personally didn't like Emperor that much though for some reason. But Dune 2 was the only strategy game I had known before 1997, and Dune 2000 was my unshakable love until Age of Empires 2 came out.

Dune 2/2000 were absolutely fantastic games. Loved the hell out of them years ago. I can see why Emperor is kinda contentious, but I still feel it's one of the finer examples of RTS gameplay despite its overall simplicity.
