Has wow ruined MMo's for you?

For me it has. Like for 4 years ago, I was grateful that I got to play any MMO at all, I loved the "open" world feel, where I felt that I shouldnt go longer out than necessary. And stuff, now that I got to play wow for 4 years, Im bored of it. I'm a very slow levler so I only have 4 90's. Anyways, when I try playing another MMO, they become boring after a day or so, I almost have max level in swtor (Level 46) But the game is horribly optimized and the questing experience in that game is the worst ive seen in any game, you need 2 hours to level one level. I've tried wildstar, Questing was too boring. Eso, Questing was Ok, But the Armor, looks horrible at low level, and I need good looking armor (not skimpy) to level. Anyways, I have tried many other MMO's, and still the same problem questing was horrible and too slow, they kinda overdid the questing in wow, (I think they have over a million quests or something). I'm waiting for archeage to stop downloading and see if that offers much to the table, If it doesen't I might aswell just stop with MMO's. Pretty much: I've played wow so much that all other MMO's have become repetitive and boring. You might think: "Huhu, 4 years is nothing I've played since vanilla." Fact is, I always come back to wow, level up my characters, Then I don't know, solo previous content, then I cancel sub and do other stuff.Anyways, you opinion pls

Well pretty much: Wow has killed the MMo genre for me, why? Because there is no other MMo that is compare or not nearly as good as wow. And I want to try other things, not just wow, I'd like to get immersed in other games aswell, not just WoW, WoW, WoW, The only other game I've ever been addicted to was Skyrim, other than those two games, But I really should stop now as this is getting off topic.

Same here: In my own experience, WoW has been such an incredibly high quality, well crafted game that whenever I play any other MMORPG, I instantly feel like it's something out of WoW's vanilla nightmare. Couldn't bring myself to make it through SWTOR's 100 hour grind of death (only made it because of the double XP weekends, and even that was hell); Rift's class customizatipn was a novelty but everything else about it felt poorly omptimized, and ESO's flow felt out of order. Everytime, I returned home, to the one game I was so accustomed to my whole MMORPG career: WoW.

Same here. After playing wow for so long, I find all other MMOs to be jokes. Some get very close in quality to wow but end up with a lot of shortcomings and design decisions that I don't agree with.

By my standards, wow is doing everything right.

But they're just a vocal crowd.

Yeah, no other MMO has remotely even come close to World of Warcraft's scope, scale and achievements.

j/k your opinion is just as much worth as any other players.

I played many other MMO's before WoW and most got the typical huge time sinks heavyly integrated and you count your playtime in weeks or even months for reaching simple milestones in the game.

My first though in vanilla beta/vanilla WoW was how fast you can do stuff compared to other MMO's. In vanilla it took you 25 PLAYED DAYS for max level (60) and it was QUICK compared to other MMO's.

Todays leveling or farming or grinding for reputation is again way faster than anything in vanilla.

I still like to play WoW, because you can allways do something really fast, you can allways take short breaks without loosing connection to the current content and the game feels like in the beginning. Gear and skill just matter as much as in the beginning of WoW, the game changed very little in that aspect.

I have to turn to an agreeing thought.

I have tried MMO's in a long list but I instantly feel if they are missing something that by some standard should be there or has been very common for one. I wouldn't say WoW ruined any moment of other MMO's, they just got the recipe more perfected than others.

I have compared it through my MMO experience with others, and all ends up having some little tick that should be there. I have tried my fair bit. By my list, all that is done within WoW is right, it is the handling and story telling that is bumpy but the mechanics and features has almost all become a check list for me. From the small things to the bigger ones.

If anything, the biggest disappointments were ones that try too hard to emulate it, and fail, like Rift.

Yep, it sure has. The only other mmo that even came close to being enjoyable for me, is GW2 and it still doesn't hold my interest as WoW in any shape or form.

The controls, the art style, the history, the world, mounts, pets, gear, the races...everything about WoW just dragged me in, it became one of my "special interests" and I expect I won't be stopping playing WoW until the servers go down unless I really genuinly stop enjoying it for some reason.

I play pretty much every MMO in Beta and a lot on release, only MMO's that have ever held my interest past first month of Sub is SWTOR, RIFT and FFXIV.
All others are horrible in regards to my personal feeling towards MMO's.

The quality of other MMOs has ruined other MMOs for me. It's not solely due to the bar WoW sets. Most MMOs are simply terrible, terrible games. It's that simple.

By the way WoW has nowhere near a million quests. If you do a quest search on wowhead.com it only finds 12,377 and that's counting class/race/faction specific and also redundant quests - so in many cases it's counting the same quest twice, once for each faction, and counting simple 'turn-in-only' quests like the bonfires during midsummer.

I've gotten 10,000 quests completed in my main's statistics and half of that are dailies. If I do every non-repeatable quest in every zone for my faction, the number is probably somewhere around 5,000 if you do not count dailies.

All other games are missing things I got to expect from an MMO due to wow having it.

Phasing for example. I have yet to see another MMO that has this technology. I just feel it lacks emersion if the fortress I just leveled (maybe even with cutscene, and a flight through burning corridors with cave-ins and whatnot) is still standing.Phasing can make it happen (and I hope there will be even more phasing in WoD).

Although, WoW is by no means perfect. It could do a few things about mount clipping (a pet peeve of mine). TERA for example combats this by having girls (guys don't wear dresses) riding side-saddle. It even goes so far that longer hairdos have a second hairdo version that displays if the clothes the girl wears would clip with her long hair.

So, I feel more games should copy stuff from WoW WITHOUT being another wow clone.

AS to the OP, somewhat, Very little mmos I can level up fully in and get into as much as wow, but some come close, I intend on subbing to wildstar every few monthes, Guild wars 2 i play once a week, and i will hit 60 in rift a little bit before the xpac comes out

For me it has. Like for 4 years ago, I was grateful that I got to play any MMO at all, I loved the "open" world feel, where I felt that I shouldnt go longer out than necessary. And stuff, now that I got to play wow for 4 years, Im bored of it. I'm a very slow levler so I only have 4 90's. Anyways, when I try playing another MMO, they become boring after a day or so, I almost have max level in swtor (Level 46) But the game is horribly optimized and the questing experience in that game is the worst ive seen in any game, you need 2 hours to level one level. I've tried wildstar, Questing was too boring. Eso, Questing was Ok, But the Armor, looks horrible at low level, and I need good looking armor (not skimpy) to level. Anyways, I have tried many other MMO's, and still the same problem questing was horrible and too slow, they kinda overdid the questing in wow, (I think they have over a million quests or something). I'm waiting for archeage to stop downloading and see if that offers much to the table, If it doesen't I might aswell just stop with MMO's. Pretty much: I've played wow so much that all other MMO's have become repetitive and boring. You might think: "Huhu, 4 years is nothing I've played since vanilla." Fact is, I always come back to wow, level up my characters, Then I don't know, solo previous content, then I cancel sub and do other stuff.Anyways, you opinion pls

Well pretty much: Wow has killed the MMo genre for me, why? Because there is no other MMo that is compare or not nearly as good as wow. And I want to try other things, not just wow, I'd like to get immersed in other games aswell, not just WoW, WoW, WoW, The only other game I've ever been addicted to was Skyrim, other than those two games, But I really should stop now as this is getting off topic.

I think the problem may be that you are expecting other MMOs to BE WoW. Then getting disappointed when they are different in some way. When I quit WoW and started playing GW2, I hated it to begin with. It didn't play the same, I didn't have the investment. I walked away a couple of times. But then slowly but surely it started to make sense, and I realised there was a game in there that I could enjoy.

This isn't suggesting that one MMO is better than another, btw. Just that they all offer something different, and somewhere out there might be the one for you. But you need to give it time before you write it off. When you spend as much time as you have on WoW, nothing, no matter how good it is, is going to replace it instantly.

Played Wildstar recently.

It started nice, I liked the looks of some races. Then I discovered I need some addons to play it comfortably, like Lockdown. Then I got the feeling that I don't really like the silly humor and stupid jokes, and the humor also felt awkwardly placed in the game world which is pretty gritty in some places and nothing to be laughed at but the humor was forced into it. Playing it even further, I came to the realization that the leveling content is boring as hell, way too many quests and they all felt very grindy, unlike wow's quests which are much fewer in number and are also pretty diverse and not all just fedex and kill X.

But probably one of the major cons for me was the very combat which sounds fun in theory but when you gotta keep dodging and moving 24/7, it just becomes tiresome eventually.

The group pve content was...meh. Ofcourse it became terribly annoying when seeing wipe after wipe and people leaving and joining the group as other people bailed. Last time I experienced such fail was in TBC in WoW's Wailling Caverns and Uldaman, and I can't say I loved those wow dungeons as they used to be, but in W* seems all dungeons are WC and Uldaman.

PVP I also found terrible. I was playing an engineer and discovered it was terribly hard to hit people with such narrow telegraphs and I felt like I wasn't doing any damage at all and was just a punching bag for melee. There was also no CC that lasted for more than 2 seconds and no aoe cc to speak of, making the battles just clusterfucks of facerolling.

Just an example how a good quality MMO can be ruined by details.

Not at all, I enjoy quit a few mmo's actually. If anything, wow made the genre much more accessible with easy, fast rewards that gives the player the ability to play multiple mmo's if they want.

Not really, I've played a number of MMOs after and before WoW, I originally played Runescape > WoW > RIFT > TERA > GW2
Usually sticking to GW2 these days because I don't have to pay monthly and the game itself is just great, plus they do sales every month cutting it's RRP by half (currently on sale at the moment I believe for £17?) I'm starting to grow fond of ArenaNet, they listen to their player base, add new content in monthly as well as an array of items / cosmetics / bosses / challenges that makes you come back for more.
