There are "What's your favorite piece of WoW music?" threads all the time, but the responses are pretty much always WotLK and beyond; never any pre-BC tracks.
Here's mine: the Sunwell theme

Kara, of course.

I'm not a huge fan of Alliance at all, but I really like a lot of the Stormwind or Vanilla WoW human encampments. They are really epic, in my opinion. Actually, I'm quite saddened by the fact that the Alliance actually has fairly great tunes, whether it be capital cities, home zones or just ambient background noise. A lot of the Horde themes are really tribal sounding with drums and shit. WoD changes this to a degree though and actually brings in some great Horde themes.
As far as zones go these are my favorite:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-hYpfNnlv0 - Winterspring
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNh3mMeXA98 - Shadowmoon Valley (TBC)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78xB_GqLwPY - Ashenvale
I love all of these, Winterspring the most because I spent hours farming raid consumables and studying for exams with the background music on while in university.
Also, while I generally dislike the Hordes music, I should note that it doesn't include Blood Elves. Whether it be Lament of the Highborne, Silvermoon or any of the Sunwell tracks.. they are all pretty amazing. Can't forget Black Temple, more notably the Summit tracks (when you're fighting Illidan, or prior to fighting him).
Honestly I think one thing somebody can legitimately say was good about Vanilla in particular is it's soundtrack. I'd raise eyebrows at somebody who compares current raiding to vanilla raiding as merely having rose tinted glasses on, but music always stands the test of time. There are truly some great tracks in Vanilla/TBC. WoTLK to me only has a few memorably tracks, Invincible (and all renditions of the opening cinematic) and a handful of the tracks in Ulduar. I really think that Vanilla had some of the best zone music the game has to offer. Not that the current stuff is bad (because it isn't).

I'm not sure it's music per se, but the sound track when flying over Hellfire always gives me goose bumps. It recreates the strangeness, majesty and danger of the place.
Best experienced on level. (It's quite deflating when your level 90 virtually one shots fel reavers.)
Simple, the first zone I ever visited.. the magic of stepping into the game for the first time, those first ten levels in Elwynn will always be the best for me.
Kara, though a lot of the Blood Elf music was stellar (Quel'danas, Magister's Terrace, Sunwell)
Black Temple has some very memorable bits

Politely disagree. The recording's of Vanilla felt very...laptoppy. Even by BC the quality went WAY up. I'm pretty positive the music budget wasn't as good in vanilla

This, just does it for me. I don't know why, it just does. I know part of me loves the Diablo II tinge (thanks to Matt Uelmen).
I also like Zangarmarsh, and special mention to Netherstorm, it reminds me of Lucasarts "The Dig".
I really like this one for the nostalgia and the epic melody!

I'm with you, OP. Sunwell's theme (and Eversong's by extension) was probably the most memorable. It's charming with a slightly haunting undertone.

Goddamn, right in the nostalgia... Old Shadowfang Keep. Was also Molten Core, but fuck spending five hours in there with just WoW's soundtrack playing.

I just love this. Going my first time through the Night Elf zone thinking how big the world is.
Especially at 1:10 when the Song Of Elune hits in it becomes so magical.
Pre-Wrath...it's actually a tie for me.
Dun Morogh music:
Mulgore music, also the general "plains" music that you heard in Westfall and similar zones:
My first two characters in the game were a Tauren and a Dwarf. When you played with ambient sounds/music enabled, Mulgore and Dun Morogh got it absolutely perfect.
Just to pick one from BC:
Netherstorm music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sj1B_efUk8
I love the ambience music that some of those zones used.

Im so sad that blizzard no longer uses atmospheric/ambient music since cata. Current WoW music (this includes WoD tracks) is okay on its own but does not fit as game/ambient music. Anyone gets what i mean? There is too much of everything in the tracks. The music is no longer ambient music.
