I've used to play but it didn't keep me for long. I've seen some recent stream of it and it has changed quite a lot. It got my interest. One of my biggest concerns is balance - I remember this game to be favoring ranged heroes. Is this still the case?
Right now, the current Meta is considered to be double-support, double-tank, 1 carry dps.. Granted, you will still see all kinda of comps in ranked.

Anyone link a high level game where he achieves anything significant in the game that any other hero could have achieved more easily?
He has probably the best disruption tools in game. Barrier baits people into over-commiting, portals create gank opportunities and confusion when enemies try to react to them, ults are also very strong - ley line seal is mostly a harder to use VP, while sheep is probably only useful in solo play. He also has decent damage in teamfights, even if it's hard to notice and falls off very hard if he misses a Q. Because he has a high skillcap on his own AND also requires his team to know how to play around him (which means voice-comm is pretty much mandatory), he's very weak in solo queue, but he actually is used and even banned against some teams at pro level.

Plagued by the same problems as DotA and LoL: people can troll the fuck out of a game and ruin it and there's no real punishment for it.

There's a Leoric guy that dies a few dozen times a game and ends up 0/30/0, he did that A LOT in ranked play and the worst he got was 2 weeks banned. Laughable.

    You've played with bad Medivhs

Only one part of him is scouting. The rest is a mix of outstanding Q poke, making a team mate immune to damage every 5 sec, and setting up power plays for his team with portals.

There is currently a Power Creep problem. The new heroes are vastly stronger than some of the older heroes. Genji is the most OP hero the game has ever seen since Alpha (the people who say he isn't are either bad and/or dont play at a high enough level as he is a high skill-cap hero). Malthael is also slightly OP. The Meta currently has about 12-15 viable heroes. Balance has actually gotten worse. What has gotten better is matchmaking, although its not great.

I, for one, think the heros started getting "stupid" after Li Ming. I yearn for games where the matchmaker sets up a more "classic" round; hell I'd rather face Novatul than Chromie + Li Ming "Oh lol you got blown up by someone off the screen WP WP" bullshit that occurs

Or can do math as no statistics available anywhere support this. I don't like his design, but he is currently below 50% WR even in Masters and around 48% in Diamond. The hypermobility heroes - Genji and Tracer - are a fucking pain to play against and if they get a nerf, match quality will most likely improve; but on all levels below Tournament play, Genji gets drafted alot but wins less than Gazlowe, Murky or Nova.

With a roster of 60+ heroes and growing, we can afford a few more 'pro' skill heroes like Medivh and Ming hovering between 40 and 45% in ladder play, but there shouldn't be too many of them; imho.

I think they need to introduce a big patch soon. Meta has been very stale lately, every role has a clear winner.

I think it mainly comes down to Blizzard's Support and Tanks philosophy. In early days they tried to create both Supports and Tanks that could do little bit of everything, but now they try to push them into niche positions. Double Warrior meta has risen in popularity because all new Warriors have been Bruisers who are very strong in certain situations and have comparable damage to survivability ratio to melee Assassins while providing more safety to backline. Also Double Support + Hyper Carry is on a rise because Blizzard refuses to give Cleanse to new Supports which is major factor in competitive and Bruisers deal enough damage to compensate for lack of Assassins/Specialists.

I think we need more main Tank Heroes, Bruisers dealing less damage, doing something about Cleanse and reduce power level of meta defining Heroes.

Genji is broken mainly because his defense mechanics mitigate all damage if played correctly. You can use high mobility to dodge abilities, use Deflect when rooted or just having E and D on cooldown and having access to Dodge talent mitigating 3 basic auto-attacks (This talent should be removed really). There is little to no counter-play against good Genji, reason why he has low win ratio is because he is pretty hard to play and in competitive he is dependant on his team to create a ground for him where he can abuse his resets.

I don't understand why people still think Malthael is broken after the nerfs, he is a Hero that is rarely feels fine because of his design. He either punishes enemy team compositions really hard or he is useless because he struggles against high mobility Heroes or Double Support + Hyper Carry compositions. From my experience, I usually see very bad teams being picked into early Malthael. One game I had, I was laughing at loading screen and thanking enemy team for free win when I saw them draft Ragnaros, Artanis, Arthas and Azmodan.

As much as I like the game after the changes... toxic players made me give up on it. Sadly, they reached HotS too (I remember the community to be the nicest of all the mobas in the past) and it's not fun to play 4vs5 becuase someone is flaming instead of doing actual gaming.

I hate to be that guy, but you're gonna deal with toxic people no matter what game you play, if it's multiplayer and online. If that's the sole reason why you stopped playing HoTS, you should likely stick to single player games. You'll never be able to avoid them all otherwise and every other game'll get ruined for you.

I'd agree in any other game. I came back for 2.0 and it was intolerable. Easily wins the worst playerbase award. And it's a shame, because the game itself is a fun little waste of time.

I play literally every day and almost never run into the situation you describe. Doesn't come even remotely close to "worst playerbase".

Nope. From all the online games I've played MOBAs are the only one with toxic communities. MOBAs are like magnets for all the kids with issues.

Of course, I've met jerks in other games (including WoW of course) but they weren't as numerous.

I've met far more toxic assholes in WoW than I have in HotS. My brief foray into LoL was worse than both of them combined, though.

I've met far more asshats in MMOs and shooters than in mobas. Especially in GTA V. But, you kind of know what you're signing up for when you play GTA Online.

I wish I had your experience! Like I said I liked playing hots when I had nothing else going on, fun little waste of time. Maybe it was the time I played or something, but every game I'd have a leaver, or a thrower, or someone shitting all over chat "for fun".
Turning chat off only does so much when you have someone feeding the enemy team deaths every time they spawn. I've been playing online since online was a thing, and in my personal experience, hots has the worst overall playerbase I've ever seen. Being free probably adds a lot to it honestly, but then I played dota and lol for a bit, and while it was "toxic", they don't compare to the endless shit show of socially inept people I saw in hots.

If you experience that maybe, just maybe your playstyle in a teambased game lures out that behavior?

People are rarely toxic for no reason.

If you have a friend, give cho'gall a try in QM. He's a lot of fun. Most QM players can't deal, and try to play solo against him, forgetting that he's not just one player.

Just hopped on after this thread to try it out! Was hoping it was better. MVP, losing team, top hero/siege dmg. Laned, went to every objective. Didn't type a word, didn't ping.
Called a bad, a shithead, and I should uninstall. It's totally me. lol. Oh well.
