One current theory is that the subraces we're seeing in 7.3 are ones that are Legion related which may be unlocked with a prepurchase of Legion, with more subraces dropping in 8.0. It would also explain why they put them in the files now.

Yep, the void elf data points to an untextured blood elf model with a night elf character creation screen, and the inverse for nightborne.

I just realized something. Theoretically, if they did a world revamp... Every sub-race could have a starting zone simply because of level scaling, in which each of the starting zones could very simply just... Link up with regular leveling right out of the gates.

Theoretically they wouldn't even need a world revamp. Just starting zones that you can't get back to. Like the Wandering Isles.

We're going to have to choose between following the Void or following the Light. Each one will come with its perks, shortfalls and most importantly: character appearance enhancements.

Alleria will lead the void campaign and the Light will be led by Turalyon. These will function a bit like class order halls.

Players following Alleria will become Void touched (void elves etc.) and players following Turalyon will become Light touched (or something) and will have some kind of Light-related appearance enhancement.

The idea is you'll be able to look at a player and instantly recognize the sub-faction they've chosen to pursue.

It's true, and that might be why Blizzard will just refer to them as races and not subraces.

A world revamp would make sense anyway cause the current old world leveling is terrible. But if the don't want a revamp they can still just make phased starting zones for the sub races.
