(Hint, because I know it's going over your head: If they only had one JPG or PNG banner ad on the top of the screen or along the side, or something equally benign and low-key, a lot of people would probably open up their adblock software on the site to support them. But NOOOOOOOPE!)

Idk man, almost 30k posts over 5 years, you don't feel like you've gotten your 9 bucks worth of entertainment? I totally get using an add blocker, but at some point it's not unreasonable to think you'd want to kick something back to the people providing you a service. To each their own, though! /shrug

I do get the points about the obnoxious adds though - I've been a vocal detractor before. As I said, up until premium this was one of the few sites I felt compelled to use script blocker for.

Because people hold value differently. I don't care about the front page and the forum isn't worth money. Perhaps if Premium offered useful features but it doesn't.

You and everyone else moaning about how awful MMOC is, you're like people who sleep in a bed of broken glass, complain about it, do nothing, and go to bed the next night on the same bed of broken glass.

The criticism of moderation is justified - the rules are inconsistently enforced and more and more topics are getting forbidden

I am normally open to support this like this, but in this case exactly where is my money going, and who am I supporting? Curse is, in the end, owned by Amazon which is one of the biggest companies in the world, and have plenty of money. The only "face" i have to put on who I am supporting is a huge company. For Twitch you may pay for a sub and also support Amazon, but you are also supporting a streamer or someone you like. Same with Youtube Red. But here, who exactly am I giving my money to?

They don't provide content... What does premium even pay for? Bandwidth costs next to nothing, so does server hosting fees, etc... They still have ads up, which I don't/wouldn't click regardless.
So there is absolutely zero reason for me to support them. Maybe if this was Blizzardwatch or another site that actually provides content I would consider it. But they don't, in fact most content provided here comes directly from forum posters and gets put on the front page. Maybe they should be paying us.

Most us are prepared to and (apart from those that can't afford it) probably do support web content we appreciate.

MMO champion contributes nothing. It reposts stuff off the official forums and profits from user-created content. It is a middleman/parasite. If it died tomorrow the main consequence would be that someone would do the same thing, only better and with less scummy adware. Worse it forces people to use adblock which has a huge knock-on effect on the rest of the web-since once you have adblock you will likely never turn it off.

In short, MMO champion can go fuck itself.

If becoming "premium" removes the ads, why would you need to stop blocking it? My answer is: No.

- The site doesn't offer anything one can't find elsewhere or in patch notes.
- Ads in general are bad. The ads on this site are straight up malicious. I refuse to reward bad behavior. In fact, the removal of ads for a "premium" is exactly the reason why one shouldn't "go premium" or disable ad-blocking software.
- 0.99/month is actually pretty steep just to remove ads. If were like 2 bucks to remove them forever, that would be different. Still inexcusable, but different.
- If you're going to host a free site, make sure you can afford it. It's not the responsibility of your visitors to ensure you can pay your bills. Do you invite people over to watch Netflix and then ask them to help cover your subscription costs?
- Still hasn't upgraded to HTTPS.

People want to discuss Wow and other MMO's. This site has a monopoly in search and no one wants to post to other forums with no traffic, so they come here regardless of how terrible the site is.

And this site is truly fucking terrible. Of the thirty or so forums I have contributed to over the years this site is by far the worst, hideous snot-coloured design, slow processing, endless downloading of malware and some of the most incompetent moderation I've ever seen (you did ask), and a nasty unpleasant atmosphere of hostility generated from the top-down.

Adblock is free and gets the job done. The custom title isn't appealing either...

If Avatar and Signature filesize allowance was raised considerably for Premium users then I would find it more worthwhile, as it is very restrictive as it is (20kb and 50kb respectively).

Maybe special effects on the name too.

And if it wasn't free he wouldn't use it... I occasionally visit awful sites to kill time because it's free. MMOC doesn't really offer anything unique and the forum is a clusterfuck not worth paying. I only post here still because I cba registering in another forum.

i dont block because of ads. i block because of audio/video AUTOPLAY ads. did they get rid of those yet? im certainly not paying a penny to get rid of them when i can get rid of them for free

I don't block adds. Can't say that I've experienced any super annoying adds (autoplay, expanding, etc) on MMO-champion. It's usually just GIFs, banners, etc. I typically only see them below the "Home Forum Private Messages" tab as well. Rarely do I get adds on the left and right parts of the screen. Those can be annoying if they're very flashy.
