I think I already explained why many, if not most, Native Americans see it as disrespectful. I suppose I assumed "ignorance" as the motive, as most people wouldn't deliberately engage in behavior that was blatantly disrespectful to someone else's religious beliefs. Most people.

I used to live in a county with several Pomo Indian reservations on it. They owned several casinos that brought nice business into our little county. My middle school football team was the Chiefs, my high school team was the Indians. The Pomos never had any problem with it. Was like that for almost a hundred years. A couple of years after I moved away I read in the paper some immature child felt the need to complain on the Pomos behalf, and they were forced to change the name of our teams. Made me sad. Happened to my grandma's high school too.

Cultural appropriation is taking another culture's traits, holidays, clothing, etc and claiming them as your own without giving credit to their origin.

An example is you have idiots who actually claim Christmas is a Christian created holiday centered on Jesus, those individuals are attempting cultural appropriation.

It is bad because it erodes a culture's history causing future generations of that culture to lose sight of their culture's true contributions to the world.

Some person in central asia domesticated the horse 4000 years ago. The idea spread, changing human transportation forever.
A chinese chemist once created gunpowder. The idea spread, changing the face of warfare forever.
An italian once cooked tomato and cheese on a flat bread. The idea spread, and today we all enjoy pizza.

To make the best humanity ever, we should share ideas and culture across the world.
We've been doing that since the start of human civilization.
It is literally the shoulders of giants on which great achievements can be accomplished.

The idea that some ideas exclusively belong to certain races or cultures is frankly, as regressive as it goes.
Why should some jackass get to decide that we must change this wonderful scheme of sharing of new ideas across the world?

I reject this mindset. I reject the ideology of the people fronting this idea.
They have, frankly, no idea what the hell they are talking about, and only spout this nonsense because they have made a fad out of getting outraged.

The thing about sharing ideas is - not all those ideas survive. Most are forgotten, in face of better ideas.
