    Discipline should become a melee specialisation

    Wasn't it the initial concept for it? I can see it being sort of like red priests from A Song of Ice and Fire, but with a twist, or rather void as red priests use shadow magic. I guess it would be more or less a combination of light and darkness deity into one. I imagine this class setting their weapons on fire, using swordstaff as primary weapon. What I mean by swordstaff(spec unique weapon type) is a weapon like Staff of Parthalan in Dragon Age series. With an option to wield 2h swords and polearms,

    While in lore Paladins are clerics who took up weapons, I see melee discipline as more of a temple guard, elite forces ready to defend their brothers and sisters and also inquisitors who watch closely over them, in case someone goes mad, either too much into the Light or the Void.

    In fact, I don't think we should look far away. Diablo 3 offers reimagined Horadrim, they too use similar weapon as the one mentioned by me.

    What are your thoughts on this idea? Would you like it to happen or rather let's keep it pure ranged caster?

    Yeah, I guess they could go melee and spank their naughty enemies to "discipline" them. But didn't they give up the melee healer type of thing with monks? I think that would be a bit monk-ish right now and I've never seen priests that way.

    Sorry, my fault: lack of precision. I meant it to be damage oriented melee specialization using both light and shadow. But I would never say no to 'off heal' kind of deal.

    I might actually play priest if they made disc a melee spec. Holy paladin, for whatever reason, doesn't click for me. Maybe another flavor on that aesthetic might.

    Faith be thine armour! In fact I can imagine it being an animation of holy/shadow energy forming gear around you. A transformation of sort*. And as far as theme goes, it is not as if we don't have cloth gear looking metallic or having metallic parts. From the lore perspective there should be no issues at all.

    Ironically it was originally supposed to be a melee spec similar to a monk, way before launch in early beta. Melee hunter was also part of that early thing alongside rogues and hunters with bucklers.

    Also more random funny irony but GW2's tank class is a cloth wearer so it's not out of the ordinary.

    Sadly, in one of the last Q&As they clearly stated that holy melee ( healing or otherwise) is paladin territory, so i wouldn't get my hopes up. i'd rather opt for a holy dps or a

    But this would be holy and shadow. A class in its own divine right! Let the paladins summon cascades of pure gold, mine can be nibbled by the Void. Honestly, I don't think it will happen, but hope there is.

    Maybe we should leave specs which are working well alone and not dream of drastic changes because they work so well... *coughsurvivalhuntercoughdemo*

    Maybe we should, but then, we should not be afraid of changes. Let's give them a chance to do it right.

    I think that it is pretty obvious that the best thing to add right now would be a Ranged/Ranged/Healer.

    Also they have added 3 melee classes and 0 ranged and that is depressing to me.

    You speak the truth. But melee are far more desired by the community. It is a trend eternal. Of course I do strongly believe that in future there will be dedicated ranged class.

    Why though? There's no reason to change a spec which has been a healer for 13 years to melee just because someone has this vague idea of a new spec. Maybe you should ask for a 4th priest spec instead?

    It was meant to be a melee. I merely wish to see the idea restored. Same as with Survival. I think there are far lesser chances for fourth spec than revamp.

    It's meaningless what it was "meant to be" when the spec's been a ranged healer for 13 years. And after the fail of survival & demonology revamps (and they literally said there won't be any big revamps next expansion), I'd say even getting a new spec's more possible.

    There is a lesson in failures. Survival too was ranged for 13 years. In the end result matters the most.

    They moved away from this long long ago by changing Inner Fire.
