I thought I would revisit this topic since its been a while and few may even know about it anymore.
The 2009 Blizzard book "StarCraft: Frontline: Volume 4" is a series of short stories set in the Starcraft universe. One of these is written by Chris Metzen (about Jim Raynor) titled "Homecoming". But perhaps the most interesting story in the collection is one titled "Voice in the Darkness". This story introduces some mysterious Lovecraftian entity that begins to whisper to Dark Templar from far far away. They come to investigate and it is a planet where this massive creature is imprisoned on some mysterious planet, jailed by the Xel'Naga. It had been trapped there using some odd device called the "Argus crystal". It frees itself and leaves the dead world, but not without taunting those who claim to try to kill it with nightmarish whispers and warnings. The creature came from "the Void" where the Xel'Naga resided. It claimed the Xel'Naga were "False Gods" and that it was "the One True God".
I don't need to explain what this creature seems to be.
I'm sure if this was truly the start of a merger between the Starcraft and Warcraft universes, Blizzard would lie to your face all day and swear it was not. I mean, this is the group that made us believe the Pantheon was alive, then told us the Pantheon was dead, then revealed they were (kinda) alive again.
Furthermore, if this is a merger, we have to ask ourselves if the "real' universe is going to wind up being Heroes of the Storm...
What do you think? Are we going to have a merger? Or is this story just an innocent one-off with absolutely and not a sly hint of what is to come?
