The Ted talk that moved me emotionally. (Bionic Limbs)

Its 19 min long, but worth a watch. It just increased so much respect for the scientists and it amazed me where the technology is heading.
The term machine and man will become one was crazy even 10 years ago, but LOOK AT THIS DUDE. He looks like a half of Chappie, from the movie.
Best part is that they are achieving amazing results with sensory technology, where lets say you will feel the touch if you have a bonic hand or arm

Ahh that ol' gem! We'll probably see more and more of that on the street as the time goes. Good for us. Then there will be a debate about it. Why have a normal limb when you can increase strength through cyboring? It's amazing for "limbless" (is that a word?) people though!
    Well met!

    Amputees.

That debate has been going on for the last 50 years. But I sincerely doubt we will experience a Deus Ex-esque future with man vs cyborg. I expect it at most to be like the current PED debate, where the best argument is the long-term effects. Only with the lack of research it will be assumed long-term effects.

Deus Ex and Ghost in the Shell will most likely be the future we're heading in, politically and tech advancement.

People will be replacing healthy body parts in favour of superior artificial ones.

Intriguing and scary at the same time.

There was a part in this talk where he said, it increased his skills climbing mountains by a bit, as he did not experience leg fatigue + he could change the bionic feet to something more spiky that helps with climbing, its insane!

So it would be "amazing for people with amputees" instead? Cool, thanks.

Yeah, I know that debate. But it'll probably increase the closer we get.

It's already happening now, people are replacing healthy lenses in their eyes to correct minor faults, or even just to get better colour view. It's not abnormal for 45+ people to see white as a yellow/grey smear instead.

    The future is amazing.

a few of my friends and I are huge fans of transhumanism. seeing this level of progress is amazing, i only hope that these prosthetics will be widely available to everyone, and not just the rich.

the 'soft' exoskeletons as they are sometimes called (the exos that diminish how much energy we need to use and how much impact our actions have on our body) are also fascinating, and will hopefully allow those of us who are athletically inclined to experience the activities we love with less risk or injury or long term damage and degradation.

what a fucking time to be alive folks

Ain't got 19 mins so how much better are these things do they connect to the persons nervous system or have their own A.I because what most cripples are walking around with today looks like something that could have been cobbled together in the victorian era from plumbing parts and springs.

Thanks even though I had to work around channel 4 region blocking.

So the special feature about the artificial foot is that it's semi autonomous and copies normal foot movements.

Did the longer video say anything about having a direct nerve connection to controlling the limbs yet?

If you mean the 'soft exoskeletons', then thats the name ive heard used for stuff like what is shown at about 9:45 in the video posted by OP, or like the one they discuss here:
    https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/05/re...roke-patients/

the idea being that they support our muscles, rather than work instead of them (or at least thats how i understand it)

I though amputees was the mechanical part that replaces your bionic limb and therefore "amazing for people with". You're saying the person using mechanical parts are an "amputee"?

An amputee is a person that has had an amputation. The thing that replaces a missing limb is called a prosthetic.

    To go further

amputee = person with limb cut off
amputation = act of getting limb cut off

    Just in case

I'm a pretty big transhumanist myself and I find these advancements amazing. Technology will only improve and increase our standards of living.

There are some pretty amazing innovations coming from this industry in the past decade. Hopefully in a few more decades technology like this is affordable for most people who are born missing limbs, amputees, war veterans etc.

One thing I'm a bit worried about is possible hacking of your own limbs, that'd suck bigtime.
