From the looks of it, the rich will benefit from it the most, and essentially we will have an "Elysium" society on earth.

However to people that embrace technology and science, there could be an escape from that by starting a new society on Mars, or a different space station...

It really depends how much longer the rich can manipulate the generel public, and buy politicians... at the moment, looking at the current Tax Bill, I would say they have a big grasp on the society in the US.

After you have everything you want or need, say at $50K income in parts of the country where housing is cheap, you have your phone, pc, xbox, ps4, wide screen tv, w/e, then money is just a way to keep score.

Yes, maybe you can buy better versions of your stuff but who cares?

And with 3D printing in a 100 years everything is going to be dirt cheap, your wide screen tv at 200 inches will cost $5, your ps7 will cost 50 cents.

But what is a life without purpose? There will be no reason to get up in the morning, no struggle or sense of accomplishment, we'll have all our toys but we won't feel like we matter.

This whole socialism versus capitalism, rich versus poor is going to go away within the next 100 years. What will people complain about then?

Unemployment is a goal. It's the promised land of humanity. Nobody should be doing these shit jobs people still have to do. Automate all that crap so that humans can live their lives. When there is no way to sidetrack and trap people in mundane and ultimately pointless "jobs", maybe then the society will take more substantial steps into educating itself, and enabling people to occupy themselves with more complex, meaninful, fulfilling and useful activities.

Think about any job you've ever done, especially a job you really enjoyed. I'll bet there were really only a few things you wanted to be doing in those jobs, the rest you could have done without. If we are being honest with ourselves I think almost everyone will admit that they look for ways to spend less time on the shit they don't enjoy, and more time on the things they do.

it was the origonal liberal solution circa 1990's but has since proven to be impossible as good an ideal as it was.

I've come to the conclusion that the doomsday you're talking about is not realistic. Looking through history this story has been told several times over. At one point, 90% of people in the US were farmers. Technology improves efficiency and reduces the need for the jobs that a great number of people are doing. As those jobs die, people filling those jobs age and die as well. Younger people are raised with the new jobs in mind, and go into those fields. This is the cyclical pattern of progression.

yes but in those past instances the destruction of a industry was met with a replacement industry for there children to enter. in this scenario AI's do 90% of the work required on earth leaving no replacement for any one sub doctorate level of intellect.

It happend all ready. It’s called the second industrial revolution but guess what we survived. Even now with machinery jobs aren’t going away they are transferring into financial and social services. Last time I check people want entertainment, doctors and teachers as well as mechanics and soldiers.
You have two ways one is progress where we advance some jobs change but society adapts by creating new jobs the other in a ironic manner is reactionary which is halting the future to conserve the past. I prefer progress and open future instead of reactionary.
