Thread: Need a Desktop

    Need a Desktop

So I am in need of a Desktop, I have never played wow on one and would like one that will run WOW on Good or better settings with consistent 40+ FPS I will be doing nothing with this PC other than gaming I play WOW, LOL, and Overwatch so that would be the system requirements. I am looking for the cheapest possible that will last a few years without any major issues. I have no brand preferences. The only addition to normal would be it needs a Wireless card that is good in it. Any help on this would be great.

Hope someone can give me some guidance on this.

    Read this http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...-build-Read-me!
Also, don't spend money on WiFi card, you can get a USB stick for that, which can be used in any other PC, even laptop.
    PM me weird stuff :3

I have had them on other desktops at work and they don't work nearly as well as a built in card.

    - - - Updated - - -

OK, sorry I missed that post here is what I am looking for.

    Budget
    - I don't Want to spend much more than $500.00, this may be low but I have never spent more than $800.00 on a Laptop that has worked decently for years so $500.00 For a Desktop seems inline
    Resolution
    - I have a 21" Monitor, I prefer to play on the highest resolution I can, I play in Windowed Mode
    Games / Settings Desired
    - WOW, LOL, Overwatch, SWTOR, GW2. Id like to play on Good or better settings and maintain 40fps all the time.
Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc)
    - This will be for gaming only.
    Country
    - US
    Parts that can be reused
    - None
    Do you need an OS?
    - Yes, Windows 10
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)?
    - No

I feel like this will be more than $500.00. Yeah so I looked and the CPU is damn near the entire budget. IM fine with an AMD processor.

You think this will play Wow at 40+ FPS all the time, my biggest concerns are in Raids 25m especially.

The memory also does not appear to have a price.

The problem is you’re wanting to spend so little bit expecting decent results. WoW is entirely CPU based so without a decent one you’re goong to be in for a rough time.

Grab Windows from Kinguin - just make sure you spend the 3$ formthe protection plan (if you somehow get a bad key, theyll give you another one u til it works). Never pay full price for Windows.

So what do I need, I don't know much about computer parts and what is good. I am just a beginner, so tell me what I need to get to be good with the cheapest price tag.

Look, the thing with WoW, is that you need strong single thread CPU, so intel is best for that, another thing you want is as much speed on the CPU as you can, that i3 is really the best you can hope, to fit your budget.

Sorry about RAM, slipped somehow, if you get OS 'by other means'

So what CPU should I get? I can bend the budget like $100.00 to get me to where I want to be. Basically anything will be better than my ASUS i7 Laptop I would assume.

Depends on the laptop, really. You can check your i7 single thread performance and compare to the i3 https://www.cpubenchmark.net
    the i3:
    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php...00+%40+3.90GHz
if you want to compare, I have i7-4771 https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php...71+%40+3.50GHz which is slightly worse than the i3 for single threads, but almost double the score overall. I stopped playing wow earlier this year, but I was getting steady high fps in raids, single thread performance was all I looked for in a CPU.

There is a slight issue that you might have to update bios on motherboard for the i3. If you don't want that, you should get i3-6100 for the same mobo, but personally I would go with 8th gen intel i3 which is 4core with no HT (which is slightly better for multi threading than 2cores+HT)
But that 8th gen mobos are twice the price of the older ones, build would look like this, just CPU and mobo change:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: Intel - Core i3-8100 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($127.99 @ SuperBiiz)
    Motherboard: MSI - Z370-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($111.98 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($104.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital - BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.99 @ Best Buy)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card ($156.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: DIYPC - Zondda-O ATX Mid Tower Case ($41.88 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Antec - 450W ATX Power Supply ($33.98 @ Newegg)
    Total: $647.80

No need to update bios with this, if you are worried about that. If you want a build with Ryzen, it would look like this

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($128.98 @ Amazon)
    Motherboard: Asus - PRIME A320M-A Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($59.99 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($104.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital - BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.99 @ Best Buy)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card ($156.99 @ SuperBiiz)

As you can see the price difference is not that big, but if you compare the i3-8100 vs Ryzen 1300x (at stock) you will see how i3 has higher rating in both, single and overall score
    i3-8100: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php....60GHz&id=3103
    Ryzen 3 1300x: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php...+1300X&id=3057
then we come into 'overclock' territory, if you want to dable into it, you could perhaps push more out of Ryzen, though if it would ever beat that i3 in WoW is questionable (or hardly noticeable), but then you need a better than stock cooler, at the very least something like Cooler Master Hyper T4 which is another 20$ but then you have to deal with things like stability, potential overheating, bad chip (for OC) etc.

You could write a whole library on the subject, but at the end of the day, what matters is your own opinion.
Myself, I would always go Intel.

Don't want to sound Ignorant or dumb, but most of what you just typed out was like another language to me. I don't really care what it takes to keep in my budget and have decent performance. I don't know how to test my laptop. all I know is it's an ASUS Q500A laptop. Don't really want to update BIOS, cause I have no idea what they are and how to update them.

    Ran that Benchmark test.

it has Intel Core i7-3632QM @2.20GHz

    CPU Mark- 3668
    Single Thread- 719

I have raided 25m with this so like I said pretty much anything is better than what I have now.

    has 4GB DDR3 SDRAM PC3-12800 Memory

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 card
    2112MB memory.

I just searched your CPU and it's
    overall score: 6929

    Single Thread Rating: 1564

so, both i3's will be better, as well as ryzen

At the end of the day, I would recommend you go with the 8100 build, slap all parts together and good to go (after windows install).
    PM me weird stuff :3
