I used to play in the Ranked ladders for CS:Source. One of the top 15 teams in Australia at the time. Also held Rank 1 on a few of the dedicated Ranked servers outside of teams. Used to be godlike at knifing and considered myself through my rankings to be one of the best players in Australia. Unfortunately this was before the large rise of Gaming/Esports/Streaming and I had to throw in the Towel because juggling a 50+hr a week Job, a Girlfriend and enough training to stay at the top was exhausting.

Kind of wish at times I had been born 10 years later.

When I cared about WoW and put time in I was very good at PVE and fairly certain that I could jump back in and do it again if I wanted, but never had desire to put no-life hours and effort in because I always felt it'd be time, effort and stress wasted, spent it chasing log percentiles in casual guilds.

In simulation racing games I was at one point making good money off of prize pools, got very close to qualifying for Ferrari Virtual Academy in 2010 just missing out on the final which would have had me sent off to the real Ferrari drivers academy in Maranello, play super casually these days but can still run circles around all but the top tier guys aka "aliens".

When I was a kid I used to put silly hours into Pokemon, Red/Yellow/Blue gen and Gold/Silver gen and was unbeaten in my town, though looking back with hindsight and a more mature brain, I didn't come up against anyone genuinely good and I woulda got my ass handed to me if I did, ignorance is bliss though I thought I was the king. At a younger age still I was really good at Sega Rally on Saturn and in Arcades, pretty much nobody could beat me but I met my best mate because of it (he challenged me with condfidence, he lost!).

That's it I guess, I've only really genuinely been good at Racing games and WoW.

I'm usually above average in pvp games, though I always played casual, never really trying too hard to reach/stay at that zone. Kind of diamond league moba games zone.

I used to be pretty good back in the day on a local CS 1.5 server. I had a tradition of being near the bottom on the first map, and then stay at top 2 for the rest of the evening.

My friends were never particularly good in pvp games, maybe that's why I never really pushed myself to keep getting better.

I was pretty good in CS 1.3/1.6 back in the day. Not absolute top level, but I could hold my own!

I was great as a Paladin in Ragnarok Online. King of Full PvP servers with that class.

Other than that, nope. Pretty average skill in everything else.

I used to be pretty good at UT99 back when it was released. I didn't play much online due to being on a 56k modem (those were they days) but at school an arts teacher linked a few 486's together that managed to run them, as well as his 2 bigger design machines. Did a 'Can you beat him?' attraction one day for charity, and no one managed to beat me. Played a 30 kill DM against a friend once and ended the game 30-0.

I did play a bit of the original AvP online, and joined a Marine clan. was pretty good with the pulse rifle!

JK noone even played that game (which is a shame, because Savage has super fun gameplay), so getting to the "top" was ridiculously easy.

I guess my highest achievement was #1 ele/frost mage 2v2 team in the world in season 8 (we tracked it on SK's top 100 back then), and #9 on the 2v2 ladder on the EU Cyclone BG.

Personally I've always been just under my goals in all games. It could be considered good, but it feels terrible to always reach just under the highest level that you are aiming for.

For example, In WoW i hit 2560 in 3s, which at the time was 50 rating under glad ( i did face alot of glad/r1 streamers though) . In LoL, I have hit masters 150 lp and thats just under challenger by a small margin. In Halo3 I was a 49,49,48 in lone wolves, team slayer, and duo, which a 50 was the highest rank (obv halo3 rank was a little off of someones skill). All my games continue this pattern!

I enjoy my games soo much though, games are awesome !

The only game I was really good at is World of Tanks in which I'm ranked amongst 0.1% of players. I suck at FPS shooters, sometimes I play CS:GO but I get raped by everybody, it is almost luck if I get some kills.

Went from being the "best out of my friends" at things like Mario Kart 64, Podracer, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark; then Timesplitters 2 on the Gamecube, to actually playing online and never really took it very competitively after that.

I play very well in almost any game that requires hand eye coordination and doesnt allow anything else as a crutch to beat someone. I destroy in unreal tournament 2003-2004-4 and almost all shooters that are not class or character based and have good shooting mechanics like quake. For example overwatch is bad because basic shooring feels completely weak and without punch, dont even get me started on 1v1 balance which is what every gaem in which two people can meet each other and shoot should be ballanced arround.

Unfortunately most new multiplayer games are made with the presumtion that you have to cater to the unskilled, lame masses both with art design and gameplay, and you have to make them feel like they can play, like they can win something. Even if its rock paper scissors skilles bullshit that leaves oponent with no chance of recourse.
This is why games like heartstone, mobas, battle royalle and "hero shooters" are popular.
whether you are doing good is heavily affected by the luck of the draw, the type of kit you are using vs oponent or simple rng and looser to looser march making letting you win every other game.
