Used to tank as low lvl warrior in vanilla, instances like bfd, uldaman, zul'farrak, the started to tanking in wotlk as protpaladin in ulduar patch. Left tanking for a long, but DH tanking brought joy and fun to me, so I made a vengeance DH for tanking only

Tanking aint just a word nowadays, you have to "tank" elitism and leavers, emoboys and other people who liek to shout they are the best.

But DH tanking is life, dh tanking is love.
step into everything will gief ya nothing, mon

How do you save a mythic raid tank or a mythic+ tank as a heal from anything? Above 15+ most often 1 bad pull is enough for a wipe only DPS(READ:interrupts/CC) and TANK(READ:KITING/CC) can save you. Since there are no strong heal cds anymore the only thing a HEAL can do is to push out more HPS and HPS/DPS doesnt get you that far in any mythic content.

I've been playing a tank from classic to wotlk. Then it became boring af. Instead of developing the aggro mechanic and combining it with newer tank gameplay like active mitigation etc. they just got rid of it.
What is tanking now? Use your short cds to avoid dmg and try to max your dps. I dont need to play tank to do that.

Used to tank on my alt.

I think the reason is th extra responsibility involved and mistakes can lead to wipes. Some players are very critical of others. Just look at threads complaining about slow tanks.

That's weird. I would say the exact opposite.

Because our tanks are always there and therfore I never get the chance to, despite wanting and having done so in previous expansions. The structure of the game simply does not lend itself well to tanks. For relevant content you ned 1 or 2. You need 2 for 30 people and for 10 people raids, while in 5 man content you always need 1.

Been a main tank since I started in BC. This xpac we had two tanks so I started off as dps and now am healing on a disc priest. I will go back tanking if need be.

Aggro mechanics, while fun for tanks, was totally unfun for everybody else. It required people to literally stop doing anything and just stare at the boss or else they would overaggro. It was not difficult. It was not skill-demanding. It was just: stare at threat meter, if you are too high, stop doing anything.

And still, active mitigation is 10x more fun than aggro managing. When it first appeared in form of DKs, most tanks worldwide were delighted.

    Also this.
I used a rogue as my offtank for Kara back in TBC. Only needed them for Netherspite and the red beam was pretty much perfectly timed up with evasion!

I'm just curious as to why some of you rarely or never play tank. Especially since it's so much easier to get groups as a tank.

    So, what's your reason?
Tried a couple of times in LFG, incessant GOGOGO freaks me out.

In WoW I can't find a tank I like. If they made an "arcane knight" or "spell breaker" type of tank, like a fourth Mage spec or just a new class, I would go for it.

I main tanked in another mmo - SWTOR as a Sith Assassin, but we don't have such an esotheric tank in WoW, DH comes close in terms of mobility and feeling light but too simple playstyle and I can't cope with the "sacrificed everything" nonsensical theme.

I'm playing some alts as tanks, but am not so fond of dungeons. I have to go there sometimes for quests, but don't like it at all. Even in 'normal' dungeons, where some people are still leveling it's a stressf for me, because everyone pulls whatever is in reach.

The fact that Tanks are geared last in progression Mythic contradicts your last sentence. And read one of my first sentences: Tanking is about moving and repositioning mobs. That takes care of your Necrotic affix.

Also if someone is asking on a "general" forum why "they" the "general" dont tank, citing Mythic end game content as an argument is just kind of silly.

I am, on every single tank class.

Was DPS since vanilla. Started alt tanking in WolK. Switched to main tanking end MoP. If you are a good DPS aware of the surrounding and the strat (like really aware, not just doing the minimum to DPS and not die) the switch isn't hard.

I'm in love with the tank role. Played Jedi Knight tank in SWTOR (cleaned the first raid and stopped), played Engineer tank in Wildstar (the same) and usually going for the tanky style in any game that allows it.

It's simply not fun.. used to mt the whole ICC but it's not that fun... super simple!

    Why dont you heal?

  16. #96
Because tanking haven't been fun since TBC. I don't like how easy it is to hold aggro and how trivial most content is.

I was always tanking in Vanilla, TBC and WotLK. I just got burnt out of tanking for the most part. Even more so now that most tanks are not that appealing to me. Maybe Warrior is the nicest because of the fun mobility he's got, but I still don't like the 'press active mitigation button every 10s' thing. It feels like a bad upkeep, I'd rather be more focused on the encounter, on protecting my party, minding my defensive cooldowns which are a lot more interesting than 'press X button not to be a DPS spec' and trying to push my DPS as a tank a little bit. As of now, especially Warriors and Druids spend a lot of Rage in being able to tank things as opposed to using fun abilities.

My GM says I do too much dps to use as a tank

It comes down to personality for me.

I'm sensitive and have little tolerance for my own failures, so I try to do my best (I'm very forgiving a person when it comes to failures of other people). Receiving harsh critique for my performance just bums me out in gaming environment. I try to do my best, but tanking is just so unforgiving. The more complex gameplay introduced to tanking pretty much killed it for good for me. I could deal with it during Wrath and before that, when it was more simplistic. Doesn't help that it has been so long since I have tanked.

All of that also applies to healing.

These days, I only play DPS in rather casual environment.

I like tanking (and occasionally healing) so much i literally wish every class had a tank spec.
Rogues, my currently favorite class, need a tank spec so much!

Not just because of the fast dungeon/lfr queues - the whole role of protecting and leading a group of men (or women) is really enjoyable.

Especially when the novelty of playing a class/spec wears out, its one of the main things keeping me entertained in wow.
