I need more D&D in a modern setting. Its a fun movie, which I think Netflix is perfect for. The movie would've bombed in theaters but not because its bad, just not worth the drive and price of admission to a theater.

What a load of drivel that gets parroted around on the net so much that its now fact.
Transformers are enjoyable mindless fun popcorn films that make box office bank because people LIKE them.
I'm sorry that I can't enjoy movies that are basically military porn and cameras under mark Wahlberg pointing up at him spinning around a lot. Oh and did I mention all the American flags and product placement?

I know Netflix wants to be taken seriously as a powerful player in the movie industry, not just the TV industry, but this particular type of story would have been better told as a miniseries or an 8-episode TV show. The world Bright is set in just deserves to be more fleshed out. It left me wanting more - a lot more. I think that's both a good thing and a bad thing.
Agreed completely. It was a fun movie, but the universe they created just begs for more elaboration and stories. They talk about the war of 9 races for example and we only see or hear referenced maybe five or six of the races? I wanted more, but I doubt we ever get more to any real satisfaction.

Yeah I liked it and would even watch it again. Some of the racism stuff was quite heavy handed and 1 or 2 cuts were a bit off imho, but overall the film was quite enjoyable. I'm interested in more of the universe because the setting works imho. The acting was good, the orcs looked believable, so did the elves. Seeing Will Smith act all racist was certainly jarring the first couple of minutes but he played it very well. I'd give it a 7/10, maybe even 7.5/10 on the no-cuddle-scale, at least from the perspective of someone who likes fantasy (even this not-so-traditional kind). Since this also isn't part of some overpriced 15-25 $ suicide pact in a cinema it's definitely worth people's time if they aren't absolutely against the theme.

And while I'm at it: Fuck critics, their opinion is worth less than shit these days.

It was OK. A modern Alien Nation. Looking forward to the universe being expanded.

Sequel already signed. Seems Landis has plenty of material

I loved it myself. Sure there was some Shadowrun feel to it, but I also got something of a Midnight vibe. Obviously I like this sort of stuff, so this movie worked for me. Will Smith can basically only play Will Smith, and this (like Bad Boys) is just fitting the movie to the role, sort of.

Only real things that seemed out of place was that the sword guy in the start goes all "hey, he's blessed" and stuff and it just gets forgotten. I guess netflix is going the HBO route of "we're not rated by any board, so we'll put boobs in" also, but meh.

I agree this movie does not deserve the shit its gotten from "professional" critics. It was a solid movie. I saw an article claiming its "the worst movie of 2017" like WTF? It won't win any awards but it was far from terrible. Also the guy saying hes(will smith) blessed and the orc is the chosen one but not being mentioned anymore during the movie shows that its a 2-3 part movie. I felt when watching it that it was made with the intention to be 2 movies or possibly a trilogy.

one of the best movies i saw this year, is simple, want to pass some social thing, but it was not forced, feels natural.

Sure it could be better but i think they fear to inovate and put to much in a single movie.

I wish the orcs could be better build, like, the skin, i think the normal green would make things easy. Also the strength, they show a orc lifting a car, but then they just lok like ugly humans.

well the movie is pretty good get a solid 7/10 or 8/10

I concluded that the sword guy knew that Wade (Will Smith) was a Bright, and was trying to let the Orc know they were in a prophecy (which the Orc shaman at the end also stated).

I took the chosen line to mean that he is a Bright, which was stated to be a 1 in a million thing for humans..

Right, but didn't he tell the orc to side with the dark lord? Or did I mishear that part? The sword guy was with the group hiding Tika, so he grabbed his sword, went out to attract attention and got arrested, then spilled out some orcish stuff that I thought was some kind of Darkness possession at the time, but that doesn't make sense given the reveal that the guy was with the good guys. Then the fed's talk to sword guy and he seems to be coherent.

I just expected when they were driving around with Tika after she took too much drain, that they would go grab the sword guy.

I was waiting for someone to post that.

Honestly...I feel like the lore could be a lot better, like the world seems to revolve around the magic bands and what about the origins of the eight other races since it only focuses on human civilizations? Did they naturally evolve? Were they created through magic? Are they aliens?

Also, if an orc was the one that stopped the Dark Lord, why are orcs so universally despised?

I feel like they didn't think this through...

I think AN orc stopped him, but orcs as a RACE sided with him. So they’re still fairly mistrusted, because when the chips were down, the majority betrayed people.

I like it. Funny and very different.

Would be better as a tv show though.

I enjoyed it, glad it got a sequel.. not much more to say. it wasn't very fleshed out.. but a lot of 'bolder' properties can't be.. you can hardly sew an illustrious world in 90-120 mins.. but you also have shareholders to please and justify a sequel allowing you to do that... lots of compromise and juggling

I loved it. I wasn't perfect, but I was intrigued by the world it created. I'd love to see more in the sequel, but I have no idea where it would go.

    Don’t trust the critics.

Mainstream critics are not meant to understand niche material like Bright, but it's still getting a sequel. Warcraft was also very niche but a huge success.

I also wouldn't ask an zero imagination folks for their taste in books like Dune either.
