"It worked out alright in the end" is the most damning statement you can give a military officer. It means that things worked out in spite of their involvement, not because of it.

He lost a valuable military asset, who knows how many men and supplies, and the hero of the Alliance was left with no support and would have failed their mission if not for Odyn's direct intervention in helping them establish ties with the local vrykul, who did offer support and backup.

And again, things working out in the end doesn't change the fact that we would have failed to stop the Legion with no idea how to get the Aegis of Aggramar had it not been for outside intervention thanks to Genn's utter failure as a military commander. The last thing anyone should do is trust him to lead an army with his standing record.
Once again, despite all of this, the Alliance got an extremely favourable outcome due to Greymane's instinctual reaction. Leaders shine in extraordinary situations; his decision turned out to be right in every sense of the word and his instinctual call and orders proved to be right. The Alliance would've been doomed had he allowed Sylvanas to chase after her own selfish goals, while pursuing the greater goal of defeating the Burning Legion. Varian did exactly that and we all saw what the outcome was. It would actually be extremely stupid for any Alliance commander not to go after Sylvanas at this point, seeing as she and her undead have turned out to have their own selfish and secret motives every single time.

As a Horde player, I was stunned by the obscure role Horde forces play in Stormheim; at least the Alliance champion assists Greymane in getting revenge for Gilneas and over what was percieved IC as outright betrayal on the Broken Shore. The entire plotline for the Horde revolves around finding Sylvanas and assisting her undead boyfriend in finding her, while she is scouring vrykul lands like a runaway teenage girl over her own, selfish aspirations, completely ignoring the fact that she is now responsible for countless races, lives and an entire faction as the Horde's new warchief. You then find out that you - as an orc, troll or tauren - assisted these undead folk in doing nothing for the Horde, while also completely failing in their own selfish goals too; it was a complete disaster. At least Greymane went after someone who wasn't trying to fight the Burning Legion in the first place, saving the Alliance in the long run and the playable character has a sense of achievement going on, which will be felt across the plotlines of entire expansions that are to come.

Another problem is the way Blizzard writes questlines up, then removes parts in the end or scrambles things up, leaving only half the story for us to play through. The order of the zones in Legion was completely messed up, just like the purge of Dalaran got messed up and important pieces of the questlines there got taken out, leaving players to wonder what the hell is going on.

Well, Genn as he USED to be written was a giant greedy isolationist douchebag.

Genn as he is now is maybe too good. Not high king material of course, as once Sylvanas dies he will have expended his purpose as a character, and keeping characters after their purpose has been spent is not a good idea (Look at Thrall...).

The outcome of Genn vs Sylvannas in Legion was : Sylvannas got screwed, she ain't getting no more Valkyr. All that matters, and a resounding alliance victory. And the end result is all that matters.

    You can rebuild airships.

And to be honest, the broken shore cinematic with Anduin and Wrynn was perfect. A son having lost his father, a father having lost his son... Was brilliant.

Which would make him a Sylvie-clone. No thanks, having one character in 10 positions with different names and masks is not any better story than marysues.

Genn used to be a selfish mutt who didn't care about the Alliance, but his WoW version is the opposite. I especially dislike how he addresses Varian/Anduin as his liege.

Too much of a loose cannon to be trusted with power, though.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

Speaking as a loyal member of the Horde, I fully agree. Please make Greymane your High King, please. Pretty please with sugar on top. Not only would it remove any lingering regret about slaughtering you all, but it would greatly improve are chances finally cleansing the face of Azeroth of your filthy Alliance. The man has the tactical and strategic acumen of a turnip and the timing of a cabbage.

I mean let's hide behind a giant wall so that when either our enemies beat the allies we abandoned, or our allies win, they can concentrate on us! Nothing can go wrong! It was pure luck that everyone was too busy to burn his kingdom down before Cata.

Oh how about, I'm angry at the horde for semi-valid reasons (assuming no-one figured out why the Horde retreated...) but instead of sucking it up like a man and dealing with them later lets start a fight during an extinction level event. I mean why worry about all those demons that might kill everyone on the planet when we can stroke our hateboner amiright?
