Kind of difficult to tell what spot you're talking about, but maybe this is one area I'm not particularly well-versed in, to be fair. A couple things in that first image look a little off, but it could be dust. The second image looks fine. Can you use MS Paint and just circle what you're thinking is the issue?

I think I can tell what screw you're talking about and I think it's not quite what it appears to be. I don't think it's that. A screw popping off wouldn't cause an electrical pop sound.

He's definitely voided his warranty, you're totally right on that.
@Indless, what card was it exactly? Manufacturer, part number... I see it's an eVGA, but more information would help.

I thought you were suggesting the screw popped off when the pop happened as the computer shut off.

Probably aluminum capacitor failure. Your card is likely shorted on PCIe power, dont try to power up your card, you risk 12V getting on to power controller and/or GPU (if it didnt already).

To be fair he said the capacitors look fine, I don't think we can see all of them, but I am not seeing any with any obvious damage.

You'll likely have to pay for the repairs.

The ones that fail are usually on the back of the card

Gonna have to say, that's a miracle, as your warranty was clearly voided with whatever you've been doing to it by those pictures.

    Nope, EVGA allows disassembly.
