Not sure if that is an excuse, but timing can be important here.

Broken Shore was a colossal disaster, one of the biggest events in Azeroth history. This could have been what finally made Odin decide to stop sitting on his ass and act - but that decision was AFTER Varian, Vol'Jin, Tirion and others died. So, at that point he was actively looking for an amazing non-Vrykul warrior to help him lead his armies, and it turned out he decided to select the player character.

no they wouldn't "have" to add someone from the horde... Stories aren't about shit always being fair, they just need to actually make sense and be consistent.

A bad excuse to justify a character not being present when they should be (because it has been established that a system exists that very obviously should have saved them, like Varian's situation) makes the writing bad and inconsistent... And it would also be bad writing to force some horde character in there without good reason.

A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

    Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK

With nothing else around to stop the Valkyr from intervening, and with a span of time between "is OK" and "would be dead".

To me, this is exactly the same situation as Varian jumping down on that Fel Reaver. The Alliance Air Ship flying away is proof that the air was totally safe at that point.
Uhh... and? At what point during his mad charge was he not surrounded by demons that would have ripped a Valkyr to shreds?

Oh, right. At no point. And then he was instantly totally obliterated.

You are, of course, entiteld to your own opinion, but i stand by mine: It was one of the worst moments of writing in WoW. I felt absolutely DISGUSTED when Odyn greated me in the HoV (he's a rapist asshole, anyway) and explained to me he saved me because i was the "greatest living warrior"...what a joke.

No, they would not have had to add Varian! They could (and should, because it was fucking epic) let Varian die.....but they should have NOT told the exact same story for the player charactr and make up some horrible bullshit with Halls of Valor! THAT is the bad writing. They should have had either Varian dying a heroic death in battle against the Legion OR Halls of Valor/Valkyr/Odyn saving the "greatest living warrior" from exactly the same place bullshit - not both! I would have been reasonably fine with either....but both together just make the entire Warrior Orderhall premise a joke.
I wouldn't even put this into the top 20 things in WoW for bad writing.

Not even sure it cracks the top 40.

And every other fucking class hall has them because that was the fucking theme behind them?

To unite the classes because the factions won´t do so.

I always just figured it was because he had Goldrinn in him. So his Soul wasn't that of a Mortal but a Demigod, so went somewhere else like the Ancients do.

Last time I checked player characters were accepted by the spirit healers. For us our death just results in running back to our corpse. It helps to know that the spirit healers that keep our souls from crossing over are val'kyr who couldn't get back to the halls of valor but refused to join Helya..

And well. There isn't a body. For obvious reasons.
This is the only response that even matters.

Sorry, they were in a rush, unless they've already planned out how broken shore was only a setback on Varians behalf
If you knew the candle was fire then the meal was cooked a long time ago.

My thoughts too. Kinda like how werewolves in Skyrim don't go to Sovngarde.

My guess would be that Halls of Valor is primarily for Vrykul and/or that Varian's soul was blown to relative bits along with his body.

Why accept the Player though? My guess is it was a rare exception made only because Odyn was actually paying attention to someone other than Vrykul. I'd imagine he wasn't necessarily looking at Varian and our first strike on the Broken Shore because none of us were Vrykul but with the Player we were joining a group of them into battle and so we actually managed to get his attention.

And if Halls of Valor was a place for all warriors, regardless of race, then I'd be even more pissed at our limited range of champions...

Hey, what? I think you might be confusing Odin with Odyn. Both are assholes, sure. But Odyn's made of literal iron. He's a complete dick and basically enslaved Helya, but there was no raping involved.

They wanted the class hall to feel like a place where Warriors gathered and not a stronghold for either faction.
The could have just stuck a handful of Horde/Alliance heroes sitting down at the tables in the rear, where there's no reason to go other than handing in a couple of quests and opening the weekly Mythic+ box.

I imagine it was similar to how we are revived while fighting Argus, the PC still had a "spark of life".

Meanwhile. Varian's only spark was the kindling of his ashes.
The Lich King's Val'kyr do that too if you die in the DK starting area. The player DID die at that point, but because they had a bigger destiny to live up to, they were given a second chance.

Might have something to do with his body being disenchanted, but also him being slain by a warlock?

So without a body, but also without a soul... which part of him would you like to arrive in Valhall... HoV?
