I think the GM had a lot of patience with the OP.

It's a known policy, and the rules have been the same since the game launched: "AH bids can't be cancelled, be careful with them". It's even a loading screen tip.

There may have been a handful of exceptions in the decade and a half the game has been out, and there is likely a lot of liars who "know someone who knows someone who got a refund".

While he may not have really asked any superior, he played along and even answered to some of the more aggressive questions. He spent more time than it was necessary and I, for one, appreciate that.

As for a way to avoid things like this in the future. They should definitely update the AH and BMAH UIs, which are ancient. And one of the changes, as someone else suggested, should be adding separators to the fields for item stacks and gold.

Maybe even show a confirmation window if the number is larger than X% of that character's total gold. That way, me bidding 50k would trigger the warning, but someone with millions of gold wouldn't unless they bid an absurd amount.
