    Underappreciated PS1 Games!

Greetings, champions. Good to see you all, as always.

So, today's thread is for underappreciated games on the PS1 - Not underrated, just underappreciated. Games like Final Fantasy Tactics/IX, that aren't as remembered as FFVII, or Syphon Filter, that got in the shadow of Metal Gear Solid.

My pick would be Yu-gi-oh: Forbidden Memories. Great game! It follow its own rules, and it's pretty hard, but it was my first cardgame ever and it's unique to this day - I even prefer it to the real Yu Gi Oh, because it has less rules. Also, the music was intense.

    Your turn!

Funny enough I just bought this like a month or so ago for $7. IMO for its time it was ok but was a bit annoying that it had its own rules. Funny enough still mite be the best Yu-Gi-Oh game made.

Ontopic: Resident Evil Survivor, I personally liked it. Its the only Resident Evil from PS1 I don't own atm.

Fun Fact: In case you guys don't know all Playstation 3 models have PS1 emulation and it works quite well for the most part. I recently learned this. Some games have issues but most that I used worked fine.

    Nightmare Creatures
    Croc

    And 1 nobody will remember;

Psychic Force, one of the best 3D Fighting games

    Croc.

    Time Crisis.

    Vampire Hunter D.

I could go on but those are three that needed a bit more recognition.

Army Men games were pretty decent for what they were. Myst was ported pretty well to PS1 and I'd arguably say it's the best port from PC.

Actually one big one that was underappreciated. Legend of Dragoon. That game was sadly overshadowed by Final Fantasy. Hell I'd arguably say it's the best RPG on PS1.

Twisted Metal III. I loved that game as a kid but found out a few years ago through the internet that it was widely considered a terrible Twisted Metal game by fans of the series, but to me it was the best Twisted Metal game on the PS1 and far superior to II and I.

Gauntlet Legends was also a great game that people don't seem to talk about too much, but was overshadowed by it's sequel/rerelease Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on PS2 (which is the same game but with more content so that's understandable).

And I agree with others, Gex was a great game but I remember it being popular so I wasn't sure if it was unappreciated or not.

Ah, forbidden memories, probably the game I have spent most of my first couple years of gaming on. I remember that I never actually completed the campaign. Couldn't defeat some of the high elemental mages. Could find my ps1 and give it another try since I think I also still have the memory card and cd for the game.

Can't agree more. I was expecting a sequel but it never happened.... sadly.

I'll add to the list Legend of Legaia. A simple yet fun RPG for its unique battle system.

Was rumored that there was going to be one.

Another one I'll list is Looney Tunes Racing. Was simple yet fun but overshadowed by CTR.

I really like LoD as well. I Still remember the timing input to Gust of the Wind Dance. King Albert was great!

I played that game a lot and I remember just how hard it was. Then I realized I can copy my user onto a second memory card and copy as many of the cards I already have. Only then did I manage to defeat the last guy who had that 4500 attack power tripple-headed dragon. Loved that game.

A really flawed game, but it was so much fun! Good times.

    Yeah, it really was.

I'd also like to bring up Urban Chaos and all of the Digimon World installments, especially the 2003 one.

    What Magna said.

Digimon World was amazing yet for some reason critics didn't seem to like it.

Medievil is a great game from that era. I don't see people talking about it 24/7.

1- Chrono Cross (Folks didn't like it much because they compare it to Chrono Trigger well yes it's not as good and masterpiece as Chrono Trigger that is for sure but still pretty decent sequel to be honest).

    2- Saga Frontier

3- Vandal Hearts II (yeah the game is not as good as the first one imo but still pretty good game tbh).

4- Legend of Dragoon (funny thing the game was disliked by many players and they used to call it copycat FFVII but for me it's one of the best RPGs in the PS1 era).
