Not necessarily compared to Haiti, but if you compare the USA to some west-european countries it is a pretty horribel place to live in.

I happened to have a conversation with someone yesterday who explained she'd rather live in the EU than in the USA, because she just so happened to have a lifelong disease that assured she'd be in debt for the rest of her life while also being mistreated at work over it. For some people, especially those below upper middle class, the USA is a shithole to live in. No access to free education or healthcare, less worker rights, etc.
