Did Republicans even discuss border security proper with Democrats? Afaik, it has been wall, wall, wall, all the time, which a lot of people see as wasteful. I personally think that Democrats would not mind better border security, but they seem to wish for a more sensible approach that will not become a massive tax burden for generations to come.
Let's face it, the wall is Trump's Hoover Dam. He just wants to build himself a big monument that everyone knows and that will be too costly to remove/change later.

What’s stopping republicans from voting for it? They don’t need democrats to get a majority... if Democrats filibuster, it would be their fault. Well in this case if Republicans decided on a clean bill Democrats could vote for it. But what's happening is that republicans are pushing for stupidity and then asking Democrats for help to avoid the disaster.

Last I saw was Daca being stalled because Trump demands it be coupled with the wall which democrats are never going to vote for.

Republicans are just trying to get votes with chip (health care for children) and democrats aren't going for it since the offer is too small (only 6 years) and both should be happening.
