I actually hate wearing shoes. If it's socially acceptable to walk around barefoot wherever I am I absolutely will. When it's not it's flip flops all the way.

Now taking a step back here.. It seems you might have autism or aspergers, and I truly don't mean it as a joke or insult. It would seem you blurt things without filter, and get pretty mad about not knowing why you got a bad reaction from people. You see, such mental disabilities prevent one from understanding fully why they get the reactions they do, since they lack the proper self awareness that should come with socializing.

The medications that are used to treat hookworms are not licensed for sale in Canada: Health Canada has put ivermectin and albendazole on its Special Access Programme, meaning that they can only be obtained by federal approval on a case-by-case basis.

Why is that? Are Canadians being treated like guinea pigs? The drug doesn't seem like an exotic one.

It didn't even happen in North America, i.e. the United States? The Dominican Republic isn't part of Detroit either, lol, it is in SOUTH America, not North America, but it is a republic, thus the name. And they say American's don't know geography. They only received the cure in North America.

On a side-note, hookworms is a blessing in the Dominican Republic. Most tourists that visit there just get shanked.

My main point was that being a beach doesn't automatically mean safe it's to be shoeless. Especially in a foreign country that you aren't familiar with.

This irrefutable fact sent the Canadian community into a total outrage and I still have no idea why. They haven't even challenged my point. They just spaz out and rage about America.

So it looks like they went to medical clinic or "familial clinic" where doctors treat patients regularly. Clinics are not as well equipped as hospitals and they don't have as many specialized doctors. Then since it is not a common symptom, and strangely there was no dermatologist in her clinic, they referred them to the right specialist for their condition. (You can either pass the same day if you show up at 7am, or you wait 1week for an appointment or you pay 10-30$ to go right away in a private clinic). Then you get treated.
Health Canada does not contact the patients. There is no such thing as "they won't treat you". If the treatment consist of taking a dangerous drug, they might ask to pass a standard evaluation (x-ray or something quick) to show to Health Canada so they have the permission to provide the drug. They did not want to go through that ans simply said that they refused to treat them.

So long story short, a couple weirdos decided not to fill out their paperwork, and like any doctor anywhere if you don't do your paperwork you don't get treatment.
