The Clement catch, I think he had the ball while 2 feet down in the zone, so it is TD, if that isn't a TD then... wow a TD can't have that much rule.

Also, I think they had a fine catch rule before this "survive the ground" bullshit. They got rid of the "push out is still a catch" nonsense, and they had safeguards against the ground assisting the catch, etc - that's all they needed.
Yes, it means more judgment calls, but shit, it reminds me of the Supreme Court case trying to define the difference between (legal) pornography and obscene material that wasn't covered by the First Amendment - the majority wrote something to the effect of "I know it when I see it." Likewise, we have an intuitive grasp on what a catch can and should be. This fucking replay rule is a joke and an embarrassment to the league right now, especially when commentators in the Super Bowl are calling it out on air and have no grasp on what should be a TD or shouldn't.
Good plan. Let's get rid of this confusing throwing and catching. 3 yards and a cloud of dust, that's where it;s at. Back to old school football.
Nah, I don't know what they should do. draynay is probably right that they have to do SOMETHING. I'm just pretty sure that this something won't lead to a better understanding of what a catch is or any fairer administration of the rules in big moments that define games.
I mean, isn't a judgment call to determine that moving the ball while catching it is "losing control" or "just securing the ball" better than the current all-or-nothing nonsense?
I can bet you now that there's basically only a few players on the defensive side that are safe from the clean up job that Belichick is going to do this off season. Last time a unit underperformed this badly he got rid of the coach that lead them and several starters lost their job. (speaking of the O-line in 2015)
With Patricia already leaving it's the perfect opportunity to make big changes and let a fresh wind blow on the defensive side with plenty of competition being brought in on key positions in the front 7.
Fun fact, the person likely taking over the defense (Brian Flores) is the person responsible for the redzone gameplanning this season, which was a definite strength of the team. I'm totally okay with this.
The current catch rules would be fine if they were consistent.
Not sure how they actually fix it though.

Gilmore, the safeties, Rowe, hightower, van noy, Harrison, and flowers are likely the only safe folks on the defense. Butler is definitely gone however.
There was nothing wrong with the catch rules before Steratore screwed up a Calvin Johnson TD and they started adjusting the rules to make it seem like they didn't miss the call. The NFL doesn't really seem like it likes to keep it simple to change it back though.
Man, if I was the Detroit Lions (AKA the Pistons per an increasingly senile Al Michaels), I'd be reconsidering Patricia, and wondering why no one is signing Frank Reich to be a head coach. Maybe QB Coach to head coach is too big a jump, but I think Reich with his work with Wentz is going to be a head coach, and a good one, in a couple years.
Might be biased as a Bills fan though.
As an Eagles fan for many decades... this is AWESOME. I did not believe they would actually win it, and I held my breath when I saw 0.00 on the clock wondering "Will Brady get one more chance???"... When the game was announced as Final it was more a relief than anything else. FINALLY.
Who would have thought that the Super Bowl would be decided by which QB was the better receiver. Brady dropped his pass, Foles did not - and he actually got a touchdown reception out of it.
The four times the Pats were stopped short of a score... 3 of those were a missed FG, end of half, and end of game. Brady had the very best game a QB has ever had in a Super Bowl. But Foles CAUGHT the pass thrown to him <grin>.
After the Atlanta game, there were a lot of questions about how Foles would do for the rest of the playoffs. 79 points in 2 games is not too bad
Now: which team will Foles play for next year. I am not sure that Philly will be able to afford both of them next year.
