The novel "Illidan" is the latest. There's another in the works that's due out I think May?

There's also the 'Traveler' series which I thought was a pretty good read.

War Crimes has been out since early 2014, I believe. Before the Storm will be the latest novel soon, coming in March, I believe.

Traveler is really good. Sure it's meant for teens and tweens, but in many ways, it did a much better job of describing Azeroth than any of the other books, especially the part where it wasn't about a clash of heroes and famous villains, but just about nobodies, which was delightfully refreshing.

I can't give you that answer fully but if you ponder, here's a goldmine.

The few WoW novels I read were already Goosebumps tier writing, I can imagine what Travelers is like

I thought that was coming out in July. I know Volume 3 of Chronicle is coming out at the end of March, if that's what you're thinking of.

Hmm maybe not a 5 year old. I'd say minimum 7+? Ish. There are a few deaths and such, though not something overly grafic. The drawings are quite nice, and Murky is adorable.

Travelers actually reminded me a little of Rowan of Rin.
