Video Games Blamed for School Shooting in Florida

Matt Bevin the Governor of Kentucky blames Video Games for the shooting.

Mental illness has become a convenient talking point, despite the fact that mentally ill people are responsible for only a tiny fraction of gun violence — and are far more likely to experience violence than to commit it. And now Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has reached down into the political grab bag of scapegoats to pin the blame on another familiar boogeyman: video games.

Ah yes, video games. The go to scapegoat for shootings despite there being little to no evidence suggesting any link.

The bodies are barely cold and already it begins. These people are disgusting.

LOCK THEM UP! LOCK THEM UP! LOCK THEM UP! Who's with me?

I'm always reminded of Steven Colbert when he commented "Yes, video games are the cause of major problems. Who can forget when Sim City came out and there were massive outbreaks of urban planning."

Also, it's funny how Video Games cause mass shootings here in the United States, but apparently not in the UK, Canada, Australia and most parts of Europe... /headscratch

Dude - I remember when FOX news targeted video games not 12 hours after 9-11 happened, trying to link the flight simulators the people trained on to video games.

When it comes to $$-backed News Media, nothing is sacred! :P

We're poor little commie socialist countries who can't afford video games.

Video games reflect the violence in society, it does not cause/encourage it.

Good question. Hundreds of millions of people have played FPS games over the past 20+ years, and quite a few of them owned guns IRL. The evidence is overwhelming that video games, in and of themselves, are not the direct cause of violent acts.

Isn't this also the guy who called on people to use their "second amendment rights" to oppose Hillary when he thought she was going to win?

  15. #15
Right, that guy killed 17 people with video games.

No, no, it's not video games. It's Clinton!

The Kentucky governor suggested that if the Democrat wins this year’s presidential election, armed insurrection might be necessary to protect the United States.

I want us to be able to fight ideologically, mentally, spiritually, economically, so that we don’t have to do it physically. But that may, in fact, be the case….

Somebody asked me yesterday, I did an interview, “Do you think it’s possible, if Hillary Clinton were to win the election, do you think it’s possible that we’ll be able to survive, that we’d ever be able to recover as a nation?” And while there are people who have stood on this stage and said we would not, I would beg to differ. I do think it would be possible, but at what price? At what price? The roots of the tree of liberty are watered by what? The blood of who? The tyrants, to be sure, but who else? The patriots.

Whose blood will be shed? It may be that of those in this room. It might be that of our children and grandchildren. I have nine children. It breaks my heart to think that it might be their blood is needed to redeem something, to reclaim something that we, through our apathy and our indifference, have given away. Don’t let it happen.
Yep, that's a call for armed insurrection if Clinton won the election, alright.

Bevin is against Medicaid expansion, for Medicaid work requirements, his budget attacks education (35th in the states), his budget drains the state reserves, and his plan to combat rising violence -- which he admits is a problem -- with prayer patrols.

    Video games are to blame?
Well then you have to blame NERF blasters and other mimic weapons kids play with too, I remember as a kid I'd pick up a stick that remotely looked like a gun ...guess that shouldn't be allowed and we should therefor burn all trees that sort of look like guns. But we can't stop there! All books, movies, news, artwork and such that show guns or violence should be burned and banned! GRAB THE PITCHFORKS! Hunting is bad influence too, stop hunting! Meat is murder, we can't eat meat anymore!

...if you didn't catch on to the ridicule nature of this post, yes it's sarcasm.

This individual and others like him are mentally disturbed, regardless of what influenced them or pushed them over the edge to doing such horrible crimes it's the mental health that should be the focus of the investigation and then look at things that could've / should've been done to prevent or lessen the outcome of the crime.

For example, the much debated, gun control.
I completely understand and support the right to defend yourself, your family and your home but nobody needs a weapon of the power of AR-15 or similar weapons. Weapons for self protection should be limited to handguns and low RPM weapons.

What is this, the mid 90's? And then the early to mid 2000's? This is just more paranoia passed by people that have zero idea of what they are talking about. And why am I not surprised that this is coming from a member of the Republican party?

George Carlin clip from 30 years ago that is still all-too-relevant today:

Except in this case instead of toy guns, it's pixelated guns, which makes it even more absurd.
