Honestly WoDs biggest problem was the whole expansion was like a single tier that they broke into 2 to make it last longer. Then they released the final tier. I mean seriously if EN lasted 9 months, then NH lasted 9 months, and then ToS lasted 9 months and that was it for the whole expansion. I mean even the zone that opened with the final tier of WoD was suppose to be IN THE GAME AT RELEASE. The whole damn expansion was rushed to side by side promote with the movie. The marketing was pretty amazing because yeah it pulled 10 million back. But it had no follow though. If WoD had expansion releases like Legion it would have been fine. If the expansion had been completed before they pushed it out instead of just cutting tons of shit out to make a date it would have been fine. Sure some would have hated it and others maybe love it but end of the day it just didnt deliever from start to finish. Just so flat and empty of an expansion.

WoD also wasn't and MoP was one of the best expansions this game ever had.

Legion is demonstrably superior to WoD; they actually completed Legion. Blizzard literally gave up on Warlords. Whole zones were scrapped (Faralohn), others were gutted (Gorgrond) or completely reworked (what was left of Gorgrond). Go explore Draenor, and count the abandoned quest hubs that we never saw use of; he'll, Broken Horn village even had vendors, mount vendor (for mounts that went into the Blizz store, natch),inn, and a tauren-style bank.

WoD can not be a good expansion, since it was barely half of an expansion.

Compare the features of the expansions. Compared to any but mop it is a landslide in favor of legion. This is why.

Legion is literally 100x better than WoD.

Because they are making the game more like classic so when those people return and end up quitting classic they will all go bfa. Either way even if subs were down, engagement is hugely up. This is not debatable and easily counter acts any negatives from low subs. From a players perspective there is no reason to care about sub count.

The remaining few million players are mostly passionate veterans of WoW, and because of this passion, any change is magnified. So they see 1 extra patch from WoD as extraordinary. Only problem is that these are mostly the only players remaining, so there is a bias towards threads portraying Legion being a good expansion, despite millions of dissatisfied players leaving in the last year or two who are not voicing their opinions since they are no longer around.

In summary, most of the remaining players are irrationally optimistic about the game which leads to a positive bias towards the quality of Legion.
Or Legion was much, much better than WoD...

WoD didn't have shit raids, butchered classes, ugly small zones with 3 textures in patches and uninspired launch content grind for all of the expansion, so I don't see how it's worse than Legion.

Wow veterans got one extra patch from wod? The expansion was a patch or more short comparatively and we ALL (vets) bitched about that.

Plenty came back between Legion and WoD, and as usual some of the hype subscriber base was shed along the way. This is normal. You are right people can't complain when they aren't around, but we presume they did plenty while they were here and yes complain they did.

Legion actually gave me something to do outside of raiding which was fantastic.

They hide it so people like OP could stop screeching about it. Doomsayers are the worst and they're part of the reason this game was headed in the wrong direction (look at the forums).

Sure they made a few fuckups, but they learn from their mistakes. ( i hope )

Anyone who actually thinks that WoD is better than Legion has something wrong with them. There was nothing to do. Meanwhile, Legion has loads of shit to do. Yes, legendaries and AP suck ass, but it's better than sitting around in your fucking garrison.

They have given a reason for why they don't report sub numbers anymore, and it makes sense. Your explanation is just confirmation bias: You already believe that the numbers are bad, therefore you reach the conclusion they hide them because they are bad.

That's not proof, it's conjecture, and I can apply the same logic to the opposite argument:
Why release new expansions and keep the game going in the same direction if it's not profitable and players aren't playing?

Yeah, then every single Korean MMORPG has millions of times more content than Legion.
