Where am I being batshit crazy? You're the one that seems really militant about your point of view. Singing a national anthem is about showing respect for your nation and the sacrifice of others to get it where it is today, and if you don't want to sing, you just stand. It's a simple case of acknowledging that you are part of something bigger than yourself and recognising literally every aspect of your life is better for living in a free country. I suppose I just think it's common courtesy to show my respect and gratitude for that.

That's not really a core issue. There are plenty of times when the anthem sucks but no one gets upset because they see it's Joe nobody singing it and earnestly trying to do their best.

Was she taking it seriously? Sure didn't look like it to me.

I definitely don't disagree that it was extremely weird and sucked. I think she was trying to do something that she saw as cute and clever but which fell utterly flat.

If she wasn't anyone famous, hadn't tried to put a spin on the anthem, and had still sucked then I just don't think anyone gets mad about it.
