People where?
It's not even consistently 18 in the US. It's just 18 in some of the bigger states like California, Texas and Florida, so in pop culture it's "18" in the US.
And if you're outside the US, 18 is uncommon.

Do you have a specific objection? It's a little hard to capture all the intricacies of every country's age of consent laws in a map, but it's fairly accurate. I've already given you Italy for one example.
It all makes sense now.
Which one of you guys works in Hollywood? For the longest time I wondered why they dedicated an entire scene in Transformers: Age of Extinction to a 20-something character quoting and explaining Romeo & Juliet Clauses to excuse his screwing a 17 yr old girl. Just a quick explanation that they met while both in high school would have been fine, but a whole scene dedicated to explaining why it's ok? Cringey. He even has a laminated card stating the law. WTF...

Hey, some women also feel pleasure from the actual act during rape, but that doesn't stop it from being rape, does it? You're not thinking about the topic at all, just regurgitating the same old, reprehensible and outdated standpoints that continue to allow the kinds of disparities the article displays.
A woman gets off jailtime for having sex with a minor? This ain't really news.
I've a feeling if it was a 15 year-old girl, you'd feel differently.
No and yes.
Do you ever pose an argument that isn't pure hyperbole? Also, FYI, clarifying something for the sake of accuracy is not "defending" the position.
With the latter generally being wrong, especially in this case.
It does have one positive aspect: It identifies the idiots.
Not sure what 12 year-olds have to do with anything but this is less an issue of semantics and more an issue of actually being wrong.
Most US states have something similar. In most cases, there's a lower limit (14, I believe) where as long as the other party is 17 or younger, it's not necessarily a crime. The same would apply to 15/18, 16/19, etc. But that won't stop the hard liners from calling teenage guys a few years older than their girlfriend "pedophiles" because hey, that virtue signaling is serious business.
I don't think you fully understand what an emotional argument is.
