Man this just sounds all kinds of awful. I enjoyed my first month of Rift when the game launched but quickly got out of it when they started doing massive changes to the soul I was having fun with (Chloromancer). But that isn't what they are giving players, nope. They are putting out a frankenstein's monster of original Rift and making it appear like it is the real deal. They couldn't pay me to play this weak attempt at 'nostalgia baiting'.
I really wish I could remember.
If you could show me some of the Cleric builds from back then I'd appreciate it.

As I said I almost put WoW down for Rift. Looking at it now I'm kind of glad I didn't.
They haven't been very forthcoming about advertising what it is which is just going to make people believe it's classic. So by the time they have that persons money it's too late.
I know it's not exactly appropriate to tell people how to spend their money but this is one case of "buyer beware" that needs to be spread around.
Yeah they are really sneaky about how they are talking about this Rift Prime thing. It would have been even more blatant if it was called Rift Classic or Rift Vanilla or something. But considering on the surface you'd THINK it would be the original game that launched years ago but it really is just the current game just level locked.
What is the difference between playing the F2P version and just stopping at 50 vs playing this paid to play version that has a level cap? Oh yeah, a sub fee.
Supposedly the difficulty is being upped which means jack shit to me.
I don't care for more difficulty. I care for the experience that people and myself wanted from what I read.
I swear they just looked at Pristine servers for WoW which even Blizzard abandoned and thought "yep that seems good".
I don't understand this hate for non-classic soul trees.
I mean, I understand the principle, but not why people have such hate after spending a moment to think about it. Same with WoW - would you really want to play WoW classic with the vanilla class design or current one?
For nostalgia reasons, yeah vanilla design might sound better, but for gameplay reasons - current trees are better.
I'm still on the edge on trying this prime thing, because there isn't a European server, but we'll see. (it also launches day before the next DLC for HoI4 comes out, and I'm a mod maker for that game )
See you actually bring up a good point and room for discussion here which I respect. Because the design back then allowed you to play some interesting hybrid builds. Like the Cleric one I mentioned.
While subjective the design back then was way better imo. It's not a case of they can't do it. It's a case of they can't be bothered and are being lazy about taking us back to the original Rift. That's the only reason Prime has come so soon after announcing. Because it's just downgrading the patch to 1.0 without actually being 1.0. Nothing more.
And people do play Vanilla with those old trees or at least 1.12 ones. WoWs design on Vanilla talents can't be compared to Rifts original design because WoW had some serious issues with it's original talent trees which kinda forced you into specific builds such as SM/Ruin lock. Vanilla Rift wasn't so bad. It had optimal builds but if you played around with hybrids you could create some insane stuff that worked. It had more freedom basically.
The issue most people have is that they are again not very forthcoming about presenting this. And from what I've read around forums that people wanted a proper classic version.

To be fair RIFT's main appeal to me at launch was the freedom to build my class using any talents throughout 3 different classes within a Soul. Once they basically made the change that you pretty much had to specialise in 1 Class and just had the other 2 as minor backups, well you might as well have played any other similar MMO.
I made a lot of fun builds that were like 10/26/15 and such, but eventually it became you had to have 41/whatever was left over

@Eleccybubb
Well who's to say new hybrid fun builds aren't available in prime?
You know the level cap is 50, not 70 or whatever it's now in live. You probably can't make the "put all points in this tree and fill it up like 0/61/0".
The difference between Blizzard and Trion:
Blizzard: "We once discussed this idea of 'pristine servers' for the players who want classic, but it's not what players wanted. In the end, we decided against that idea."
Trion: "We once discussed this idea of 'pristine servers' for the players who want classic, but it's not what players wanted. In the end, we decided to go with that idea."
A lot of people hate the direction the game has gone, and many of the people who had been yelling loudest for WoW Classic have been playing the game illegally. Personally I never got to experience the game and would like to try out WoW Classic as it was.
With Rift, I do wonder how much is people legitimately wanting to play the game as it was in Vanilla vs people who just want Trion to change course from the self-destructive path that it is currently on. Probably a lot more of the former than I figure given the responses.

Surely it would have nothing to do with the fact that Rift is the main game i play and have played from day one? naw, let me just post on other game's sub-forums here for games i don't even play, heck let me start posting in the WoW/Blizzard game sections even though i don't play them anymore or have no intention of.
See how ridiculous your comments now come off as? then again on WoW Champion which is more like Off Topic Champion these days, no surprise.
Bit of both.
If they stopped trying to nickle and dime and actually put out content that's decent I'd play live again.
However that's unlikely to happen so an original version of the game would be my choice. Which they had the chance to do but of course managed to fuck up royally.
me, I care very much

I legit want to have to do quests to get my souls past the initial 3.
I want major rifts to be unsoloable
I want towns to be completely overwhelmed when I log on in the morning because there weren't enough people to stop an invasion
I want the duel wielders in Deepstrike Mines? I think it was call, to near instagib a tank without a support in the group
I want to play my bard where every 25 seconds I do a song rotation to keep group buffs up
I want to wade into a massive invasion as a cabalcar with planar ascension on and murder a pack of mobs (this was more patch 1.5 than 1.0 though)
I want PVP rifts
I want 32sin 20rs 14mm back, the highest single target spec in the game if you could be behind a target.
I'd suggest watching the Rift Live Stream later in about 2hrs 15mins here (19.30 GMT):
https://www.twitch.tv/trionworlds
It will all about Rift Prime with Devs answering a big list of player questions asked on Forum, as far as i know we will have to unlock the extra souls from the Expansions through game play with Rep or planarite or both so you wouldn't be playing souls like Harbinger just yet.
A few streams back one of the Devs, Captain Cursor, mentioned that invasions were 'turned up to 11' so make of that what you will, everyone gets auto mentored to a Zone anyway so no chance of little Timmy swooping in to Silverwood at level 50.
I'd happily settle for this when they drop the first update on is, River of Souls update 1.1
