While certainly possible, Christians usually don't have communities of dozens to hundreds of people who tolerate this kind of behavior. It's usually isolated incidents, and more of an issue of power over the victim, say a priest and alter boy as a crude example. There have been similar incidents in other UK towns where a different religion has been behind it all, so my bet isn't on Christians.
