technically thats true, every game is a substitution for reality. Especially when it has a world you can traverse with a character. :P
So whether you like it or not.... you are playing a role in a virtual world set by the creator of that world! ROLEPLAYING!
Ofcourse people might deny this but technically its true! huh? IQ300! :P

Buuuuut the genre RPG has been painted as having emphasism on the roleplaying elements... so in reality not all games are considered rpg-games.
If the game is said to be an RPG then it frekking needs to be an RPG!

No it's not, not by my definition nor by official definitions. It's a MFPS.

Sometimes useless, archaic 'fluff' adds flavour.

Legion did some fun stuff with the class order hall stuff (even though a bit immersion breaking as everyone has the same god damn weapon... it was pretty nice to have a hub just for your class.. and some class quests really were a nice play through, even if a bit too single-player-campaigny at times.)

Even with a whole expac dedicated to fighting a great threat and centred around CLASS order halls.. ppl still longing for some kind of class fantasy immersion tells you that sometimes it needs to branch into something more, like class mechanics and their flavour (however unequal or special it makes them compared to others. As an example, i'm surprised warlock's ritual of summoning and healthstones have made it this long, its a prime example of a class that survives some of its special perks and flavour.)

Transmog is RPG element related to character customization, weird how some ppl want it to be removed despite tmog is optional.

So here is a list of cool things that IN MY OPINION could bring this immersion back

    - More utilities for the professions:
**A leatherwoker could very well use a actual piece of leather to repair your leather items.
**Same of course for Tailor and Blacksmith.

    - Class Quests.
**For example the Druid have to get in touch with the spirits of the animals to be able to learn the bear form and etc.
**They would not have to be all Skills. I do not even think going to the train is nice. But every class has skill characteristics that are unique.

    - More interaction with the scenery and biomes
**Today the scenario interactions are basically the Gathering Professions.
**Examples: harvesting fruit from trees as Cooking reagents, building / destroying some buildings and etc.
    **
    - More Skill and personalized non-combat content for classes
**Examples: Bluff for Rogue. Diplomacy for paladins.etc
    **
    - More active personality in races
**Today people choose the race basically for two factors: Better numbers or aesthetics.
**In my opinion, races could be more than just that. Heritage Armors are a start. But non-combat skill for the races could connect the player to his race.
**Maybe give a skill similar to "Far Sight" to the Elves, to simulate his sharp vision or things like this
    **
    - Class Professions
Imagine if each Class had something like a "profession."
A Hunter, for example, could have the pattern of creating Arrows. This patern could be used for free if the character is in a forest or use blank wood.
In counterpart the Druid could generate fruit to retrieve mana or wood for the hunter to use. Interaction between these professions.

What do you think? Too crazy?
We actuallu HAD alot of these

Druids DID do quests to better understand their animal forms, warlocks to aqcuire their demons, hunters to learn how to tame beasts and so on.

Rogues DID have poison crafting too

We had ALOT more flavor stuff period actually. Been playing on a server that shall not be named and i feel FAR more like a paladin then i do live. Being sent out to better understand the order and help the poor. Druids being sent out to gain aninal forms, rogues having to use stealth to help si:7 and so on.

It added so much to the world come cata 2.0 they better bring these back

Do you guys miss the more RPG-ish elements of WoW or do you think they are archaic.
That has nothing to do with "RPG". Do your homework kids!

Not really if anything most seem to feel it is too restrictive and we should be able to mog anything that is not class specific including whites

I miss the time when we had to go anywhere in the world to find recipes sellers. Travel to find the next profession trainer. Now everything is centralized to cut travel time. Now you do everything at the same place. It's kinda sad!
Not sure if I'm a good guy but I'm working hard on it...

Let's look at some other Blizzard games. The Diablo games are rpgs. SC1 is not. SC2 adds some RPG elements, in that you are playing as a specific character in the lore and have some customization.
The most difficult thing to do is accept that there is nothing wrong with things you don't like and accept that people can like things you don't.

exactly. although sc is rts = real time strategy-genre.
But games such as shooters... you play a single character, technically its an RPG as you play a role in the game through a narrative storyline... if you want to be technical about it.
In general its not that simple since colors in the painting arent always absolute. Pink might have red in it but nobody calls it red. Im not sure i know what im talking about... hopefully you get the point anyway.

Yeah, it's still an RTS, but they added RP features to it. Getting xp and levelling up, unlocking new spells, etc. WoW has lots of different genres sprinkled in. A lot of quests were you do bombing runs have FPS elements.

but those are there just to bring variety to the quest designs. In general wow is rpg-oriented and has always been. Even those quests are lore-friendly.
Weve had different types of bombing runs, remember hellfire peninsula bombing run? that was the first time i ever saw such in WoW... but now in legion we have point & shoot-style bombings.
Technology has improved i guess, almost everything was placement-positioned back in the day. (AoE-spells and earliest bombing runs)

Depends what you think RPG is. For me, RPG is about storytelling and immersing in a character with a specific life, goals and ambitions, etc. I don't need reagents for that, and I sorely miss options for different routes of completing quests (like, if you play a healer, then you probably should not torture people to get information).

Equipping your character and selecting talent points is important if you follow the path of games like Dungeons & Dragons, which WoW clearly does. But if you are more into storytelling kind of RPGs, then you will not find levels there, for example. You just get your experience points and spend them on skills you want to have, thus getting a maximal level of individualism in a set frame. For example, in the Vampire RPG, you have a frame that you are a vampire (setting up some rules), and that you belong to a specific bloodline (setting up additional rules and specialising), and a faction (which is pure fluff). But in that frame, you are free to focus abilities and attributes which your character concept needs, etc.

And then, there also is a simulation aspect of RPGs. There, every bit of equipment is important. If you take this to the extreme, then you don't even play an RPG anymore, but a survival simulator.

So... what kind of RPG is it you want to play? WoW has a bit of all these aspects, but masters none of them.
