Grassley and Graham call for Sessions to remain. This will make it tougher to get rid of Mueller, with such high-ranking opposition.
Pretty much. The idea isn't to fire Mueller and just hope it washes away. It's to have Mueller fired and have sycophants in charge of investigatory agencies to shut down charges and further attempts to continue it. Pruitt for AG is a name being tossed around for example as he would not need another confirmation vote.
The problem with Trump's plan is that he only effectively has protection due to the House and House members being able to take more extreme positions. The Senate would be forced to take the side of Mueller, Sessions, and Rosenstein who would be cut for this plan to work due to them being more at risk come election time thanks to state wide votes. Meanwhile, there's an absolutely astounding number of House resignations going forward and the GOP could very well lose their majority this fall. Trump's protection from impeachment hinges on maintaining control of the House which is slipping away rapidly.
He's playing a very dangerous game trying to be combative against Mueller but he's too stupid to see the obstacles that will stop him.
The issue is Trump is playing checkers while Mueller is playing chess. Trump, being a life long spoiled incompetent moron, sees a possible way out of the situation and he may well take it. What he's not doing is looking 3 and 4 moves ahead or what obstacles are in his path. He's used to screaming "get it done" and it's done no questions asked with a lot of his opposition being people he actually has control over or people who can't afford to fight back. He's in way over his head right now.
So yeah, that person would go to jail for obstruction. But that doesn't mean Trump still won't make that play. His entire presidency has come down to "what's one of the dumbest moves he could make?" then watching him make just that move. He would have already blown his own head off if it weren't for certain people talking him down. And that list of people is getting smaller and smaller every day.
Trump has to crush Mueller...by first breaking the investigation and then humiliating Mueller himself.
Neither of which will happen.
It's absolutely a possibility that Sessions is on the list. If there ever were a time to do it, it would be during a period where a large number of positions are replaced. A very critical few weeks are ahead.
Not a surprise. They've been going at it internally since he was first appointed and McMaster just launched a pretty scathing attack on Russia. He wasn't expected to survive the week with all the other shake ups.
Kelly will be next, guaranteed. Bolton has already been spotted meeting with the White House frequently in the last week.
It shouldn't be. But Trump is basically purging of anyone who's disagreed with him and setting the stage to replace Mueller.
I would also be concerned about conflict with Iran. Just about every person he's bringing in or will be bringing in, if reports continue to be true, are Iran warhawks and Trump going to war with Iran to protect himself is entirely possible.
Agreed. In any reasonable country with reasonable laws and checks and balances, he would've already been dragged out in cuffs. The problem is, the framers of the US constitution never foresaw using political parties to completely subvert all of the checks and balances we have. The country is extremely close to either 1) dictatorship, or 2) civil war if he isn't removed soon.
Right now, Trump himself and everyone who still supports him ALL need to be removed (at the minimum) and put in jail (preferably). I only wish the bar for treason wasn't so high, because they are all guilty as hell of it.
If he's not removed it's going to lead to civil war. We can only hope that the military refuse orders if he tries to nuke or invade someplace. The rest of the world needs to put sanctions on the US, like yesterday. Canada, Mexico, and the entire EU. Complete total trade sactions. And they basically need to say "get back to us when you get rid of the clownshow and actually have a properly functioning government".
Right now, the only chance this country has is...Mueller knows all this.
