Nope, short of giving your account away. They just unlock your account.

Oh, that is a shame, would have been nice for those who want Alpha to play it, it's just wasted on me

i got a email on the 30th I think, and at first i thought it was a scam, i checked the email and it was "email (at) Em blizzard com" i removed periods in case any automatic formatting robot yells at me. So i was a bit sad that i got pranked, but then i looked at the email, they didnt tell me to log in with a given link, only to instead "go to the website" and log in, or check the BNet launcher. Any link I was given in that email, led to the official alpha forums. I wont be home to download/check my launcher till next saturday...but yay i guess im in, because i am able to make a new topic and/or comment in alpha forums

Seems like they're sending out waves in small batches, maybe 100 to 500 invites at a time. Either they're gearing up for a serious beta test, or they wanting various systems to test out various other things with different PC builds.

I genuinely think they're interested in Win10/DX12 users.

So they're just going to continue calling what is clearly beta alpha? Ok. Welcome to the club!

I mean, we have less than 6 months to go before the latest release date, that's usually the time frame where Beta happens, right?
BFA is still highly unfinished. Many things are not yet implemented, including the Azerite system. I had to roll four different Alliance characters to finish a particular early main story quest in Tiragarde Sound, because it was broken so badly that not only did it not complete, it also fucked you so hard that your character couldn't move (even after hearthing, dying, or relogging).

Quite a few of my Guildies got it. One of which has such a crap computer, it cant actually launch the Alpha. So annoyed, never got invited to any Alpha or Beta in the 7 years of WoW that I have playing for... #NoBetaClub for me

If that was true I would have gotten one, though I have not.

ACtually, I think they have changed how they approach the testing phase as usually most new content is still unavailable into beta where as this and WoD now seem to get everything accessible before beta.

No, it's called alpha because that is the phase of testing they are in. They are simply letting more random people in sooner to streamline the process rather than waiting until they enter beta phase.

Alpha is not a demo. You are there to test for bugs and make sure things are working properly.

What makes it clearly a beta?

A lot of people seem to believe that the number of people invited changes the classification. But the game is clearly in an alpha state since many major features are not implemented yet - many of the dungeons, one missing zone still, warfronts, heart of azeroth, and probably more.

Luckily it looks like a lot of that is in a good shape already, Warfronts look pretty nice when you bug your way into there (and almost work), zone and dungeons are just a matter of time until they get released as well.

This certainly is the most they've had in alpha before. I think its because they're heavily monitoring the number of players online and need certain amounts for feedback

  16. #76
if your invited to alpha, are you invited to beta if it does roll over?

I got in, got an email confirming it. My Blizzard App doesn't say "alpha" however - it says "event: world of warcraft."

Probably just the app itself, it always gives me problems and hardly updates the layout for me.
3 hints to surviving MMO-C forums:
1.) If you have an opinion, someone will say that it is wrong
2.) If you have a source, there will be people who refuse to believe it
3.) If you use logic, it will be largely ignored
btw: Spires of Arak = Arakkoa.

Alphas and Betas are marketing tools as much they are testing tools now.
    1) Load the amount of weight I would deadlift onto the bench
    2) Unrack
    3) Crank out 15 reps
    4) Be ashamed of constantly skipping leg day

Yeah, I can't see any other reason for it: marketing.

It clearly isn't. The state of alpha is ROUGH. flypath not working, map not done, a few quests are bugged, terrain is clearly unfinished (saw a few stairs not connected to the ground, lot of "holes through the map", between structures. Untextured walls, empty subzones, and much more.

Alpha is clearly alpha. They may invite more people than usual to increase "testing rate", but it's nowhere near beta currently.

Or maybe you're just clueless about what alpha means ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
