Not long ago secularism, reason and enlightenment were the goals and ideals that every civilized and intelligent person was aspiring towards. Science would eliminate poverty and superstition, and humanity would travel to and take its place in the stars.
Nowdays it seems that the ultimate sign of "progressiveness" is finding the most barbaric, vile and backwards religion possible, and then compete over who most enthusiastically grovels before it, willing to sacrifice the entire civilization to it.
Of course, the people doing that are neither civilized nor intellectuals. They are all depraved, despicable liars and idiots -- every last one of them.

Removing people from a state that doesn't want them and returning them to their own lands is not oppression. If Israel booted out all the Arabic people living in Israel and left Palestine alone, there would be no oppression. There will continue to be oppression so long as Hamas and militant Palestine continue to exist.
So in short, both the Bible and Koran from a textual perspective encourage violence against apostates. Some Islamic countries have enacted such policies in the modern world, whereas most Christian countries eschewed that kind of thing centuries ago.
Almost like this is actually a product of culture and the state of a society, and it's merely masquerading as religion.
P.S. Your article covers a broad range of "blasphemy" laws, it'd be a lot more germane to your point if you cited the countries where apostasy is actually punished by death.
