Not long ago secularism, reason and enlightenment were the goals and ideals that every civilized and intelligent person was aspiring towards. Science would eliminate poverty and superstition, and humanity would travel to and take its place in the stars.

Nowdays it seems that the ultimate sign of "progressiveness" is finding the most barbaric, vile and backwards religion possible, and then compete over who most enthusiastically grovels before it, willing to sacrifice the entire civilization to it.

Of course, the people doing that are neither civilized nor intellectuals. They are all depraved, despicable liars and idiots -- every last one of them.

As Karla Poewe points out in New Religions and the Nazis (2005), political cultists would typically mix “pieces of Yogic and Abrahamic traditions” with “popular notions of science—or rather pseudo-science—such as concepts of ‘race,’ ‘eugenics,’ or ‘evolution.’” It was this opportunistic amalgam of ideas that helped nourish “new mythologies of would-be totalitarian regimes.”

Peterson rails today against “softness,” arguing that men have been “pushed too hard to feminize.” In his bestselling book Degeneration (1892), the Zionist critic Max Nordau amplified, more than a century before Peterson, the fear that the empires and nations of the West are populated by the weak-willed, the effeminate, and the degenerate. The French philosopher Georges Sorel identified myth as the necessary antidote to decadence and spur to rejuvenation. An intellectual inspiration to fascists across Europe, Sorel was particularly nostalgic about the patriarchal systems of ancient Israel and Greece.

Like Peterson, many of these hyper-masculinist thinkers saw compassion as a vice and urged insecure men to harden their hearts against the weak (women and minorities) on the grounds that the latter were biologically and culturally inferior. Hailing myth and dreams as the repository of fundamental human truths, they became popular because they addressed a widely felt spiritual hunger: of men looking desperately for maps of meaning in a world they found opaque and uncontrollable.

Interesting correlation, check the latest Jordan Peterson or Ben Shapiro thread. Look for which posters show the most slavish devotion to defending those two public intellectuals, they consume alot of their podcasts.
Then look at the posters that romanticize eugenics in the "The IQ trap: how the new genetics could transform education". They have internalized this mysticism in real time.
I'm not sure I understand your sides: the OP of that MMO-C thread is definitely not alt-right and doesn't look like a Ben Shapiro reader.

Would you think he's been sucked anyway into this mysticism?

Removing people from a state that doesn't want them and returning them to their own lands is not oppression. If Israel booted out all the Arabic people living in Israel and left Palestine alone, there would be no oppression. There will continue to be oppression so long as Hamas and militant Palestine continue to exist.

Suggesting that noticing this is "hate speech" is obscurantism of the worst kind, practiced by people more concerned with the reputation of Islam than the reality of it.
So in short, both the Bible and Koran from a textual perspective encourage violence against apostates. Some Islamic countries have enacted such policies in the modern world, whereas most Christian countries eschewed that kind of thing centuries ago.

Almost like this is actually a product of culture and the state of a society, and it's merely masquerading as religion.

P.S. Your article covers a broad range of "blasphemy" laws, it'd be a lot more germane to your point if you cited the countries where apostasy is actually punished by death.

He supported actual ethnic cleansing. No thanks.

Let me know when the Palestinians have the right to self government...

They don't have a right to self government living in a country that isn't theirs. And no one owns the Middle East, and hasn't for over a century. So much war and strife, land ownership has changed hands hundreds, if not thousands of times.

So, then they are being oppressed, and Shapiro supports ethnic cleansing... you are making my case for me.

Ah, yes. The enlightenment ideal of *checks notes* fascism.

"Ethnic cleansing isn't oppressive. Take a look as Israel."

    That's...that's a take, all right.
