Title says it all. I personally wouldn’t mind either way and in fact just hope most of the gameplay remains intact; perhaps with some balancing. It would be a good place to test a new engine too imo while work on live continues. Thoughts?

I'd be perfectly fine with it as long as the rest is spot on vanilla.
As in quests/terrain layout/skills/skill effects, all mechanics. Yes, with all the imbalance and such.
Old graphics and old animations are one of my most wanted feature since they fucked up the undead model, animations, armor placement.
I don't think that would be Classic, personally, but why not just add the option so that people can play with what they want?
I'd be fine with it, though personally I think it should be a toggle-able option so you can go between 'modern graphics' and old school.
Add a toggle = both targets are appeased.
They have already said they do not want to manage 2 client softwares. It will be through the same launcher, same a current engine(as this engine fixed most of a the falling through the world issues that plagued vanilla) as well as the instances being floating worlds in Kalimdor(most of the time). It only make sense from a development cycle point of view as share resources will be able to handle updates.
Just give me the new models with the vanilla experience and I'll be happy, no need to update anything they haven't already, and they likely won't anyway on something that's old and just for nostalgia.
I don't want the graphics in retail.
I want the graphics of vanilla. You know, wrath being a green lightning bolt, that type of shit.
I don't mind remasters for SINGLE PLAYER games that we can go back and play the old version at anytime, but since classic wow isn't playable normally (unless priv servers) I wnat it to be pure and intact.
As cool as that would be, I don't know if it is possible to do a A (modern) and B (classic) toggle. The engine is so different today vs. when classic was king. Maybe it is something they could work on after the fact if classic does fiscally well enough, as it might pay off, but I can't imagine they would put that effort in without a guarantee of a payoff.. Plus I don't know how that would jive with the world terrain of old world.
That said, I think we will see classic come out with the basic look, with some minor tweaks and 'improvements' that come as a result of modern hardware having to be accounted for....so it will look like we remember it looking, but not be exactly like it actually looked.
In the end, classic needs to be that. What people remember, but not what it was. Because if it is exactly like it was, it will fail outside of a super niche group...as I highly doubt more than that small group will put up with the original failures of the game. (in terms of game breaking bugs and things that were not intended and an actual determent to the game -- not the things that ended up being fun and a part of the game) This won't change the actual game feeling or play, just eliminate some of the game breaking stuff.
Make it optional, if anything. I can't say that I'd mind it much if the gameplay remained intact.
I wouldn't mind a graphics update, as long as it's client side only, so only the person who has it enabled can see it and it won't have any impact at all on other players. Just gotta' make sure they don't remove the moonwalking and such!
Oh man. Moonwalking, and walljumping. One of my fondest memories of vanilla was getting my dwarf ret pally, Leetcheezy, to level 32 and stopping for like 2 months to just explore. I figured out how to get to IF Airport, old IF, below SW, behind the SW bank with the bankers(that one was kinda tricky) and selling tours and explanations on how to walljump for 2g a piece. It was awesome.
I also really miss going into dungeons and zones and being scared to die. Like, really scared. At that level, going to STV and going to the east to that cave and camp full of human dudes (idr what they're called atm) was dangerous as hell. I think I died like 20 times in that cave alone lmao.
Not to mention when people drug Doom Lord Kaz'aak to the gates of Ironforge and I logged in after school to a city full of skeletons and 2fps. I instantly died to Doom Lord, and my computer at the time sucked so it took me like 10 minutes of 1fps adventures, running dead through a city of skeletons, to get to my corpse - just to instantly die again. It was fun though!
If they give option to use the old ones, then i dont mind at all.
mh thats a great question actually.. i dont know how i'd feel
Wow what a new and refreshing topic, just like the one with the same topic on the same page.
