Night Elf Archer Armor & City Guard Updates

So it seems the old classic look for Night Elf Npcs, probably sentinels and archer first and formely, are getting their classic cinematic style of armor into the game. Could also be a slight hint for future heirtage armor for player but time will tell.

Looks good to me but the male version is just......geez....

Men dressing like females look shit.

But nice that they've done that set. I hope they focus a lot on racially inspired sets. That one really deserves to be in the game.

Well, at least the male version is just as skimpy, if not more skimpy.

Also, pieces of the stormwind footman (the set with shoulder plates in that link) armour in that link are already available in BfA. They are the honourable combatants PVP plate gear if i recall, though only some of the pieces are in the transmog preview tabs.

Edit: took a look, all but the chest, helm and shoulders are found in the appearances tab, listed as Honourable Combatants Plate <slot>. There are 2 variations of the legs, boots n gloves and 3 variations of the belt and cape, all with increasing amounts of doodads.

    TEA IS DOWN!

Sylvanas is what you get when you cross Joffrey Baratheon with a mary sue. Change my mind. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I actually like the male version better than the female one, but they both look great and I would love to have them for my own nightelves!

They are not dressed like a female though. I think it looks really good, and I'm female IRL.

Maybe it's unfinished or something but that set doesn't hit me as heritage armor. I see it more as a future warfront armor based around Night Elves. Perhaps it is related to the barrens warfront datamined a while ago.

They are literally wearing the clothes of a female.

    Male night elf...

I honestly dislike it. They haven't recieved new armor, they've recieved LESS armor! It's cool seeing that concept from the old cinematic make it ingame, but I mean if we see these models being used on night elf archers and soldiers in large battles, it would feel ridiculous. I mean when your city, along with pretty much every other elf nation (Suramar, Silvermoon, House Ravencrest, etc) is full of sentinels armored head to toe, why the hell would you send out forces who are basically naked?

They don't look like they're ready to go to war, they look like they're ready to film a bad porno about a war. There is just so much more they could do to make some culturally-themed and traditional looking night elf armor. There are SO many concepts -- so many Kaldorei military organizations, who wear full suits of armor which still looks decorative and badass that they could have drawn from to make something truly iconic. I'm talking about the Rooksguard, the Wardens, The Sentinels, etc.

There's even just lots of cool fan-made concept art out there that would look cooler as models in game than the weird victoria's secret lingerie we see here. So instead of these:

We could have something like these:

Those last two still show some skin, but it's still more tasteful and a bit more functional-looking than those models we have now.

i dont mind that the male night elves are showing so much skin,
but the ornate metal art style does not fit them at all (imo), while it is perfect for a female.

i love the dwarf one. that cloak is amazing. it actually looks like a cloak.
and it is the same color as the shoulders of the shirt and hood.
which is awesome, because it actually looks like they are wearing a cape.
and i love how the shoulder(s) is not over the top attention seeking impractical crap.

    the forsaken one is alright.

i dont understand why the draenei have this one.
i dont see how the "eagle helmet" fits with their racial theme at all.
also, it makes their horns dissapear lol.

    the human is awesome.
but i wish the belt was a bulky one, and not just "skin level". same for the legs.
and they could use some elbow-guards.

So a loincloth and a strap on the chest is women's clothing? I don't see him wearing a bra or a skirt. Also who the fuck cares to argue about the gender of their clothes (or lack thereof) anyways?

I like it, though I think in Tirisfal, they should really cover up a bit in the midst of blight and stuff, y'know.

That being said, I wouldn't mind having such a set for our racial heritage armour. Or maybe add legs/something to cover up a bit more, so you can roleplay a traditional Archer AND the Huntress at the same time. It's good for males, too - the cheststrap thing looks quite nice.

    This.

Maybe all next warfronts will have different armors sets with different thematic? Arathi is Human vs Orc.

Maybe Barrens Warfront will be Night Elves vs Taurens/Trolls theme?

Night Elves are not humans/dwarves who prefer heavy armor in battle. They rely on speed and agility - back in W3 Huntress units (sentinels) had "No Armor" type of armor. Typical sentinel since W3 looks like:

    I don't see that.

The armor how it looks now needs some work though, it's clearly got outdated textures. Make it stick less to the body(it looks painted on in this picture), and perhaps increase the size of some pieces a bit more(like the skirt for both genders) It's pretty darn cool.

People keep talking about these amazon warriors they apparently are, and I've grown to like that image of them, and can't see the feminine aspect of the male version. They are too bulky to look feminine wearing that. If anything I like the male version better.

Also... I just realized my avatar since forever is wearing said armor, hah!

Night elves in loin cloths? Treading too close into Avatar territory, a movie I loathe.

  16. #16
Looking through the other options and hahaha....

    Never change, blizzard.

The male night elf is interesting. I suppose there's no male sentinels to work with from a concept art point of view (the female one is basically a perfect depiction of the artwork) but I do feel a bit cold. Maybe a full kilt all the way around and a little more to the strap?

It'd also help both of them to have a "helm" option with leaves and such in the hair? Or a barber shop option? Would really tie the whole thing together.

It's only okie for orcs to show skin huh, you realism that this is a game with you and space goats, fight naked spaced demons, and half naked horde in all sorts of battles right?

That's not entirely true. House Ravencrest and the Wardens for example both wear full-on armor that looks a bit heavier than bikini plate.

Also my problem isn't the existence of the whole "no-armor" type of armor as much as it is the design of this particular "armor". Especially with the male night elves who are practically wearing nothing. I edited my previous comment to provide examples of how this kind of armor could've looked like.

The agility/speed thing isn't much of an excuse to be wearing nothing either. If that's the case they should be wearing more leather and hide. If they have to wear bikini plate, atleast wear a layer of chainmail underneath so you're less vulnerable to flesh wounds.

I'm not a fan of skimpy armor like that (you're a fighter, not a stripper dammit) but credit where credit's due, the male one is just as revealing as the female one so I have no special problem with it either. I'd have been a way bigger fan of the armor worn by Huntress Kasperian in the Tomb of Sargeras, now that one looks both flavorful and awesome.

That said, for the people who want these armor for their characters, you will probably have to wait as it looks really unfinished compared to the standards of quality we have today. So I doubt it's a player-ready set, at least at this time.
