It's the same exact deal, and we'll see another period where no content is even remotely close to challenging unless you choose to go for the higher difficulty levels in a premade group or raid. New zones and questlines you'll just plow through as usual, never remotely close to dying at any point, you'll run dungeons and whatever at maxlevel for 2 afternoons and you'll be geared up and ready to raid, and once more all world content and queued content is insultingly easy to you, always making sure that players succeeding in reaching their current goal is far, far more important than to put them in a world that requires them to play properly, be a bit careful, not play too recklessly.

Because we've hit the point where failing at something outside of endgame, premade group content is considered an "annoying inconvenience", in a freaking MMORPG (MMO-ARPG is more apt at this point). If you want to face some sort of danger and challenge, there's high level mythic, heroic/mythic raids, and other premade group content! But everything else remains a bucketlist of guaranteed-success tasks that requires zero focus from you as a player. Leveling, braindead. Solo World content, braindead. World bosses, braindead zergs. Dungeons, braindead until you go mythic+. Island Expeditions, probably braindead.
As if the "base" content has to hold your hand at all times and apologize if you ever actually fail at something.

I am a casual pleb, I don't raid, I don't enjoy high M+ where the true challenge is the timer and not the enemies themselves, with bosses often dying faster than trash does. So BFA presents what Legion ultimately did, a few new zones with new stories but you're only there for the story and leveling up, because you're killing the questlines big bads without a seconds thought. It's mindnumbing. And you hit max-level where you'll have a couple of weeks of new and fresh content but none of it actually feels like something to overcome through basic strategy, trying again and improving. Or heaven forbid, come back later because you didn't have gear that was good enough the first time.

Imagine that ey? Imagine going into a new dungeon that was on a slightly different difficulty scale and you can't beat it in 20 minutes mindlessly AoEing trash and tunneling down bosses in 25 seconds flat, but you actually need better gear (and proper strategy and communication) to succeed? Preposterous! Artificial prolonging of content yada yada.

Add to that, that we're not even getting a new talent row, there's no real indication that Blizzard actually has noticed that braindead difficulty mode on all non-premade content is hurting the enjoyment of the game, and not revisiting some of the, admittedly, archaic designs of what used to keep MMORPGs going where people would play for hours and hours per day and still never really reaching a point where they feel like they're "done". Because being "done" isn't actually something to strive for in a freaking (would be) MMORPG. There should always be somewhat difficult content available even as a solo or LFD queue player where you actually have to keep oxygen flowing to your brain in order to be able to succeed. That is something Blizzard has apparently abandoned altogether.

So no, BFA doesn't manage to hype (me) up because I've played Legion, and I know what BFA will be like about 2 weeks after release. Then you add some Timeless isle/raid size patches that as usual makes nearly all previous content irrelevant, and we're just playing Legion again but with less green and less demons. BFA is an even more streamlined version of Legion, and that sure doesn't bode well for the game's longevity.
So based on your overall viewpoint, what were Mage Towers to you then? Wasn't/Isn't that difficult solo content? Just trying to gain clarification here

Didn't you see what he did to an entire planet? We'd have to fight one of his white blood cells in order for us to even have a chance of winning a direct fight with him...

I am completely unashamed to admit that I'm happy with more of the same. If it's like legion then great but if it's like legion it probably won't look ground breakingly different which is something I believe causes a lot of hype.

Yeah you are totally off on that analysis
Yeah, no. Lorewise, Deathwing was several times more powerful than Illidan and Lich King. He's one of the strongest dragon aspects that was also empowered by an Old God. He's the only boss in the game (other than Sargeras stabbing our planet) that literally changed the entire landscape of Azeroth. He's the only boss in the game that encompassed TWO final boss fights. He required us to get the Dragon Soul to even have a chance of beating him which caused ALL OTHER ASPECTS to lose their power in the process while also using WoW's Jesus character at the time, Thrall.

The way Blizz handled his raid was bad, but that doesn't mean he wasn't extremely powerful.

    - Stop acting like a SJW; I'm also entitled to my own opinion and I don't recall being insulting?
    - If I wanted to play a game with an actual entertaining story, I'd play a Visual Novel, Adventure Game or even a non-MMO RPG.
    - So yeah, I'm mostly interested in Gameplay in a MMORPG because story is atrocious anyway.

Even in the raids, while he was the final Boss, he was just a raging beast that actually menacing beings used to their advantage. So he was actually a pretty shitty villain. Nefarian was a better villain in that expansion and he died like a bitch in his raid (again).
In my regards Deathwing is the best villain WoW has ever had. But that might be subjective. The entire expansion was tailored towards killing him and it worked very well from a lore standpoint - at least for me.

As I said, the raid was bad but the overall feeling in Cataclysm wasn't.

I think it just lacks an obvious thing to latch onto. Normally you have a new set of races, a class or a major mechanic like the garrison to get excited about.

While this expansion is, largely, removing a lot of excess stuff from the game. No legendaries, no new talents, etc - not saying that's bad, just that it's hard to get excited about that 'one thing'.

(note: sure there are warmodes and island expeditions but they're pretty close to scenarios so I'm not sure they're enough to get the base fired up)

Despite the heartfelt ranting, we all know you'll play it. Feel free to vehemently insist I'm wrong, and THIS time you REALLY won't be playing the game. FOR REALSIES THIS TIME.

    See you there.

I'll grab it in english next week once in California, but at all of my friends are disappointed to not be able to read it in their language before BfA launch. And most don't understand english enough to enjoy reading the original text.

There's lots of promotional stuff for BfA actually. I'm pretty excited for it, and so is everyone I know that has actually played the beta. The only people I know complaining are the youtube primadonnas and their fans tbh.

On topic: I would love to see some more cinematics to hype me up. The format they did before legion with their short harbingers cinematics would be really cool, but to me it's no big deal. Their cinematic team must be working on something else that we will see soon!
Blizzard story telling is not great tbh.

Mage Tower is indeed a challenging piece of solo content, it however only rewarding cosmetic rewards makes it irrelevant to what I'm trying to adress. Had Mage Tower rewarded you with some significant reward like a powerful trinket for example (and MT was far from easily beatable when it was released, a pretty signficiant contrast to other solo content the last few years) then it'd be a fine addition. Alas since the reward was little but a cosmetic artifact appearance and an achievement, it doesn't soothe my frustration.

My point regards how the "mandatory" type of content in the game, from leveling, to solo content to gear up, farm currencies and get ready for dungeons, regular dungeons, world bosses etc is all guaranteed success on Support Wheel difficulty.
But because there is tough challenging content in the game if you decide to group up and do it, it's somehow okay that all non-group content (or LFD/LFR) is insultingly easy. Many seem content with that sort of design, I am however not. I do not need to consider my gear nor my class' abilities when leveling or doing maxlevel world content, I am never close to dying unless I deliberately play horribly, dungeons, endgame world content and everything inbetween that and heroic raids/high m+ is merely a bucket list to be checked off before you can get to the content that might actually challenge you.

And that is a giant waste, because if the new continents were genuinely dangerous, not only does it make me feel immersed in these new zones, it makes me properly assess situations and how to counter that with my available tools. For years now however, there's almost never any need for that. Doing a brand new dungeon and... well with the baseline difficulty being what it is, it's not like I have to even try to learn what the boss does before the pull. Gogogogogogo.

So when I received beta access, and jumped onto a few different classes, I realized it's the exact same all over. I'm not supposed to be challenged by anything, because obviously if I die I am being inconvenienced and might complain on the forums about artificial prolonging of content, I guess.

Runescape is a different beast entirely. They also have added new content to osrs. That’s why it’s stayed alive. Using runescape as your defense doesn’t help. Classic won’t get new content and osrs isn’t runescape 2004. It’s RuneScape 2007 after a lot of development. But once you see how many servers classic has and the population you’ll realize classic doesn’t surpass live.

Except a burning house is a fact. The house is on fire, rather, is a fact. You hating bfa is an opinion. You don’t mix the two to make an analogy because it doesn’t work that way. If it was a fact bfa sucked and not a single person was hyped, then that would be a fact. But even then it’s opinion based.

Take your shitty analogies elsewhere. Plenty are hyped, these forums are literally filled with toxic people who just want to hate on WoW for some reason.

A better analogy would be: You ran out of the house because for some reason you thought it was on fire. But in reality it was just a small puff of smoke from a popcorn bag so everyone else stayed inside.
