People just need to get their shit together and start recognizing that food cannot come at that low costs it's trying to be marketed as. Food should be valued and its value be paid. If you're not earning enough to afford a steak every other day, tough luck. That shouldn't be the norm anyways.
This HAS to come through the consumer, because the farmers themselves can't form an alliance w/o risking trouble with cartel laws, and without an industry-wide organisation, there will always be that one asshole that tries to slip into the market by outrageously cheap prices, choking everyone else.
It's not that much different here, except for the suicides. But farmers struggle left and right. Since I myself earn more than average, I transitioned to avoiding overly cheap meat and dairy from discounters. It's usually not of great quality anyways. Cheap, cheap, cheap is a terrible direction in the food sector, and the OP shows only one of its outcomes.
