The issue isnt exclusively in the 1%, that's an exaggeration that is often used by people who have no idea what they're talking about.

You do realize that most faults of our econemy currently have roots in people not being able to afford to spend period? Small businesses complain that they cant pay more because then they'd be cutting into profits, but its most businesses having this thought process that's preventing people from making the wages they need to spend in the first place. The disappearing middle class is something we should be terrified of, but few seem to care, and whenever its brought up dumb people start screaming socialism.

Pay people shit wage and they will only go to the cheapest, lowest quality available. Which is typically sold by a giant company, keeping the money out of local hands.

We dont exactly need to redistribute the wealth up top, we need to remember that we need a strong financial core, since those up top have shown themselves quiet against spending their money where it matters, we need spending where it is needed. A nation can certainly exist with no middle class, but it will never thrive.

This HAS to come through the consumer, because the farmers themselves can't form an alliance w/o risking trouble with cartel laws, and without an industry-wide organisation, there will always be that one asshole that tries to slip into the market by outrageously cheap prices, choking everyone else.

It's not that much different here, except for the suicides. But farmers struggle left and right. Since I myself earn more than average, I transitioned to avoiding overly cheap meat and dairy from discounters. It's usually not of great quality anyways. Cheap, cheap, cheap is a terrible direction in the food sector, and the OP shows only one of its outcomes.

Life is free. Charging for something that is inherently free and here regardless of putting a price tag, should be something you should think about. No other species charges to have life and to live life like humans do.

I'm white. I'm male. And you can't actually refute a single thing I said.
Oh the poor self loathing sod you are... I'm brown, and the way you self discriminate is beyond cringe-worthy.

Jesus Christ. You don’t get to tell me what I’m discussing. Again you came in on an argument about apples and you’re taking my stance on apples and applying it to an argument about hammers that I never had.

What the fuck is wrong with this forum today.

Yes they do ask for more respect. They want to be thanked and paid for doing a job they chose to do.

"Think about trying to live today on the income you had 15 years ago." That's how agriculture expert Chris Hurt describes the plight facing U.S. farmers today.
I have a lot of empathy for US farmers but this problem is not specific to US farmers. Maybe everyone can stop bitching about how entitled Millennials are for two mintues and think about our deeply entrenched economic problems that are mostly perpetuated by greed.

Good luck with that they mostly vote for republicans and we all know who republicans care about, namely the big and rich and powerful. and to the rest of you suckers they say shit like make america great again while they implement policy that will wreck your business of being a farmer, see tariffs and the winning trade war, these farmers are getting so much winning from the current administration that i am sure they will be out of business in no time.

They're winning so much they won't need jobs anymore!
While in the cities, there will be jobs. Tons of jobs. You'll have people working 2, 3, even 4 jobs we'll have so many jobs!

I think we need to remove the subsidies (welfare handouts) they receive and let the free market correct the problem. Larger Farming Companies will pick up the slack if shortages appear. Farmers are getting to many handouts as it is. They are getting paid by the Government not to grow crops, name me another industry were you get paid not to do your job.

Failing businesses should not be getting propped up.

catch 22, growing number of people having to rely on food banks as well. at last in the UK. food price goes up better for suicidal farmers bad for suicidal poor, food price goes and down and vica versa.....

Consumers generally won't buy produce unless it looks a certain way and is overstocked. There are some markets addressing this in a way by selling "ugly produce" to draw attention and hopefully get consumers to consider it, but the overstocking is still an issue. People generally won't buy produce from a supermarket if they only have 1 or 2 choices. They want to see baskets/crates full of the product so they can choose what they want. If they see only 1 or 2 green peppers left, they'll assume that there is something wrong with the peppers and not buy them. That leads to a ridiculous amount of overstocking and food waste which in turn drives down the amount that supermarkets are willing to pay distributors for the product (and those distributors pay the farmers less as a result).
In the UK a study was done using parsnips and people were actually perfectly happy to buy wonky parsnips, Morrison's (i think) are now doing bags of cosmetically rejected produce as well, trying to change their image a bit. Hopefully it works.

Since you seem interested, did you hear about how they were testing plastic free labeling on potatoe's in some EU countries by laser branding them? It just doesn't work on citrus fruits because citrus skins heal. That's gonna be interesting.
