Yeah this one I am probably going to depart a bit from the left consensus, no, I don't agree with this, much like gun rights for example and property rights, abortion of a philosophical level not legally.

I am going to have to say even as much as I hate what some children or taught, or what some parents refuse as a part of their children's education this is going to be one where more overall I am an advocate for parents rights over the state or society.

Some exceptions though for instance on vaccines, I think those should be forced, because that extends beyond the parents and the child and goes to harm, and abused obviously. However what a child learns or doesn't learn with some pretty wide range of liberties, it is my contention that parents rights should supercede that of the state or any other, especially in matters of sex education.

Although personally if it were my kid, I wouldn't give a shit, because whatever they are exposed to or learn, even if I disagree with. That can be countered and the values I would like for them to have reinforced through time and my own efforts. Once a child has reached the age of adulthood, then they can decide and choose for themselves.

Yeah, sure. Have schools show porn to your kids to "educate" them.
    This is sickening!

My first sexual experience was seeing my niece making out with a random guy when she was babysitting my five sisters and me. I had to go to the bathroom. Must have been when I was 6 or so.

No, that's actually a good thing.
You cannot let idiot parents neglect their children and toy with their future.
I know Americans (esp the conservatives) are like "ERMAGAAWD STATE HAS NO BUSINESS IN MY LIFE!!11" but I find that to be a .. quaint and naive attitude.
Things like public healthcare, a strong welfare system etc are signs of a modern and compassionate society. You often seem to be stuck in the dark ages, I am very happy I do not live in America. Sure, it may be great if you have an awesome career and your life is rocking on.

It's not as if 15yr olds wouldn't access it via the Internet anyway. Though I would hope that the School would do it a little more scientific than showing some male oriented fantasy movies.

So wanting to homeschool a child is now comparable to our corrupt/ineffective healthcare system and lack of social services? No, I don't think so.

Why can't we do like before, and just let kids learn sex from Pornhub?

That's what the education made me assume, Now I'm 29 with no relationship experience, but I have no regrets either.

That's actually a halfway reasonable idea now, given that pornhub started producing sexual education materials awhile ago (page is SFW).

My sister was present for the sex ed lesson, and somehow she still didn't know what a condom was before she got pregnant.

Good, you shouldn't be able to refuse sex education. Heck, even now a days, 15 is too late. Should consider around the age of 12-13. Parents have to grow the fuck up to their responsibilities. These sex education classes are made because some parents fuck up and doesn't actually have the balls to talk to the kids about it.

Yes, it is. I see no logical reason to homeschool a child unless it's fragile health mandates to do so b/c contact with lots of other children would endanger it (cancer patients ect).

99% of all parents out there are not qualified to do the job properly.

PS: "Muh no like what curriculum teaches b/c religion/personal values!" is not a logical reason. It's purely subjective opinion and should be disregarded.

12-13? I would say starting at 10, at the absolute latest. The average age of first menstruation is 12, but a significant number start earlier, with about 10% happening before the age of 11. It's something that needs to be talked about before it starts happening.

And it needs to be taught to the boys too. Men believe far too much nonsense about menstruation.

Would say 10 would be the youngest.

And of course it has to be taught to boys as well. It is sex education.

I was meaning the same lessons for both. Too many such curriculums (like the one I was taught in a decade and hmm ago) divide up the class and only teach each sex about their own stuff.

Because teaching a child course work is hard, I guess? Yeah really hard to teach them a curriculum from a book like almost any school teacher in America is going to do (this is sarcasm, I mock you for knowing almost nothing about this). You have no idea what involves teaching, you're just asspulling and ignorantly stating it's too difficult or specific for normal people to do. Not everyone is capable of effectively teaching, but it doesn't take some kind of rigorous qualification.

Well, they used to get split up due to the whole menstruation explanation vs. condom explanation.

Sex ed should just be mandatory. It shouldn't be up to the parents or the student. Want to graduate from school? Take sex ed.

Yeah, what I'm saying is that they shouldn't be. Or at least that both sides need to cover both sets of information.

Teaching about sex prevents teens developing stds and unwanted pregnancy, and fifteen is a fine age to start, hell they taught us about the basics in school when I was ten, nothing graphic just basic shit like genitals and how conception works
