So people are just now realizing that they pay the story out of game in comics and stuff? Been a thing since wrath Proabbly Before.

You know, since everyone is such a critic, they could probably do better, right? Their years of experience? Blizzard is always hiring. Go apply. Put up or shut up.
The sheer amount of whiny posts nitpicking is annoying. It's not constructive criticism it's just "Waah this sucks this is bad this is lazy blah blah"
Prot Warrior 2004-2008. Hunter 2008-2018.

Unfuckingbelievable.. but totally expected. All of you ignore the actual point of the OP and linked story and whine about the phrase "low budget cinematic". How the fuck did any of you ever graduate from high school with critical reasoning abilities like this?
Except the story has always been told in game, in comics, in cinematics, in books. This isn't something new, we're just getting more of it now. There was a ton of story told in game during legion. The basic premise that the lore is now being told outside of the game is ludicrous, this has always been the case in companion to in game. If you can't see this then you haven't paid attention to Blizzard's storytelling for the past 15 years.
Even if Blizzard is succesfully delivering story using the same methods as Overwatch, it won't really matter WHAT the quality of those videos and shorts are as long as the underlying story is as terrible and weak as what we've seen for BfA so far.
That's the difference. No matter how much you polish up a turd with nice cinematics, it's still a turd. This is what Blizzard doesn't seem to understand.
Overwatch influencing anything in WOW is just as bad as Diablo influencing anything in WOW.
Hence a AAA game becoming a B- game.
Nothing good ever came from Overwatch...
Perhaps the stupidest statement in a thread full of stupid statements.
Blizzard's YouTube videos are not monetized. They do not have ads on their videos. Why would they run ads on their own videos? Their whole channel is there largely for promotional purposes, to promote their own products.
To the contrary, Blizzard pays YouTube to roll WoW ads on other videos.
Vanilla ironically had the best storytelling.
The Tirion Fordring questline has yet to be topped.
All of the cinematics that they post on YouTube are in the game. That you seen them on YouTube before the game is because the cinematics are usually released before the events play in game. You do not HAVE to watch them on YouTube. You watch them there to see them early. And Blizz makes no money directly off those videos. It's called "advertisement". They post there to attract people, specifically no longer subscribed players that would not be able to see the cinematics.
If anything the in-game story telling is only getting better as the game goes on. Does no one remember SWP, where if you hadn't read the manga you had no idea who Anveena was? These days almost all of the out of game stuff is supplementary, maybe with the exception of Calia's fate in Before the Storm depending on how big of a role they end up giving her.
