Maybe someone should use the torch to burn down the OPs computer and every internet cable and tower within a thousand miles of him.

But again I find this whole process and the event absurd. Instead for individuals people cheer for countries. Not dude y or miss x got gold no it's "country x".
You do realize that there are a lot of team sports in the Olympics and that people participate on behalf of their nation's, unless your country got banned like Russia, kek.

Does the torch symbolize the Nazis? If the answer is no, why get rid of it? It is something that has come to become part of what the world sees as "the start of the Olympics"

As much as people try to not think about it, we have the Nazis to thank for many medical breakthroughs because of the experiments they did. Not saying that it was right but the fact that they were done and we got so much research from it is the point.

Don't give anything to the Nazi's and claim everything back.

The German Highway was build by the Nazis, now it's ours!
A Lot of Medizin was created by Nazis, now we use it for all people

i would actually wish people would stop "but the nazis did this or that, so just stop doing it" and go more the way "fuck the nazis we claim this back for us!"

Like the Swastika which was a symbol used in asian countries long before the nazis used it

Don't fear the nazi legacy, claim it and use it for good things

And rocket science. But yeah, damn near everything the Nazi's did that could be considered "good" comes with a very, very big asterisk next to the title of the deed.
Damn, beat me by a minute

Them and the Japanese, from the same period. I remember reading some biomedical ethical books in college about using their knowledge, gained from horrific conditions.

If these fanatic leftists had it their way we'd have to undergo a damnatio memoriae of everyone and everything that was built or conceived under Nazi rule. Even the very things that became symbols in direct antithesis to Nazi ideals, apparently.

Fine with me. I won't either. My high pressure fuel pump died and even though it is under warranty I have been told my fuel is contaminated and they won't cover it. Funny thing is, it's not contaminated. And it's been at the dealership over 75 days. The state of Utah, where I live, has a fuel specialist in the Dept. of Agriculture and Foods, and he went to the gas station I filled up the last two times at, and confirmed no complaints of contaminated fuel. Then he went to the dealership and collected a sample of my fuel to test independently. It passed the state's test for diesel fuel quality. Oh, and I have my last few physical receipts showing I filled up with diesel (which doesn't mean much unless you also have confirmation from the gas station that there have been zero complaints, which I have.). So yeah, I'm not buying another volkswagen if they cannot honor a warranty for something that is not my fault.

I'm not sure why we're still upholding the proud traditions of Nazi Germany exactly ? The torch relay is a completely made up thing that has no root in Greek tradition.

Given that the Berlin olympics were essentially Hitler's attempt to demonstrate the superiority of Nazism it sure looks like a suspicious decision from the olympic comittee.

I am currently redacting an very mean spirited email which I'll be sure to send to the manager to let him known that I very much expect to not see the torch relay in 2020.
The Olympics existed before hitler, though. Just because an idea was created for it, doesn't make it a promotion of nazism. Stop over reacting.

I would feel a little bummed out if there was no torch run in the future. I mean, it is a good symbolism for that nation.

Or what about Volkswagon? Promoting Nazism too?
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

Most amusing part of the 1936 Olympics was when Jesse Owens crushed the best runners the Nazi's had to offer and Hitler left the stadium in a tizzy after refusing to acknowledge it.

Bit sad, but even his own president wouldn't really acknowledge his victories

Why are people still so butthurt about the nazis that we can't even do things they did, is eating food nazis ate also promoting naziism?
did nazis like beer, they where german, does that make all forms of beer nazi beer, is drinking in general supporting nazis?

The nazi salute was also stolen from the roman salute, but now nobody does it because "its a nazi thing"
The nazis wore awsome looking military garb, now the world considers that style to be nazi style so nobody will use it.

I think we need to stop letting people we killed 60+ years ago dictate what we can or cant do or use.

The amount of people responding to this thread complaining about everything being compared to Nazis, ignorant of the fact that the OP is troll about that phenonenom is too much to handle.

This is actually an often repeated falsehood. Hitler was actually scheduled for a meeting after the race. He may have been upset about the race but that isn't why he left afterwards. Also Hitler was the ONLY world leader to personally congratulate Jesse Owens on his victory (done via letter). Jesse Owens was ignored by the US government afterwards and ended up having to move to South America to make a living. Don't get me wrong, Hitler was a piece of garbage, but this "fact" you stated is wrong.
